2022 BEACH BIKE POKER RUN, SATURDAY, MAY 21, 2022, 2 – 5 P.M.

‘WE’RE STILL HERE!”

THINGS TO DO:

Mark your Calendar now!

  1. Register online beginning April 1 for attendance and t-shirts through April 30. Registration on event day will start at 11:30 am until 1:30 pm at the E-Club. Pre-registered guests can pick up playing card and t-shirt during these times.
  2. Join us for one of our most celebrated events supporting the Kids Outdoor Odyssey Camp for children from Onslow and Carteret Counties. The camp is part of the Semper Fi & America’s Fund and offers support and resources geared to the needs of children of service members suffering from catastrophic injuries and life-threatening illnesses.
  3. Find your bicycle and get out the decorations (anything Parrot Head cause “we’re still here”)

Last year, we had three hundred dressed up bikes with crazy riders riding the paths and sidewalks to our 7 bar stops and drawing a poker card from our card sharks at each stop. The race will not officially begin until 2 pm from the E-Club and will end promptly at 5 pm. Riders must return to the E-Club and Playing cards must be turned in at the gate entrance no later than 5:30 pm.

There are 3 winning hands that will pay out $300 to Best Hand, $200 to 2nd Best Hand, and $100 to 3rd Best Hand! Also, a prize will be drawn for someone from the “Loser’s Box!” Winners will be announced shortly after 5:30 pm. But stay for the after-party! Matt at the E-Club will be serving free food, live music and we will be throwing out bling, offering a 50/50 raffle, door prizes, and who knows what else?

President’s Notes March 2022

I am super excited about the 2022 Beach Bike Poker Run. We are off to a great start with securing fantastic bar stops and terrific sponsors! Please visit Emerald Isle Parrot Head Club Facebook page to view their support and generosity. Registration for this event is available online beginning April 1 at www.emeraldisleparrotheads.com .

I would like to take this opportunity to share, from the Semper Fi & America’s Fund 2021 Annual Report, how much our contribution means to the Outdoor Odyssey Kids Camp. It may be lengthy but worth the read:

“Your generous donation of $8,601 in September 2021 helped to offset the cost of transportation for 40-50 children from Onslow and Carteret Counties in NC, to attend camp at the Outdoor Odyssey in Boswell, Pennsylvania. Offering support and resources geared to the needs of children of service members suffering from catastrophic injuries and life-threatening illnesses is a priority. We are thankful for your support as we continue to adapt our assistance and programs to meet the unique needs of these “hidden heroes.”

At the onset of COVID-19 pandemic, we were well prepared, as a virtual organization to pivot our service to meet the needs of military families by incorporating virtual programming to ensure the health and safety of the entire Semper Fi & American’s Fund family. As pandemic restrictions began to ease, we were thrilled to reconnect children and families to in-person events, including camp at Outdoor Odyssey.

During the camp, children learned to leverage their unique experiences to address the stressors related to having a military parent with a catastrophic injury or illness. Children gained confidence through activities, such as conquering a climbing wall, and developed tools to be successful in school and life. Leadership skills and coping principles and philosophies were wrapped around every activity, giving campers a real-life takeaway as they returned home. Activities included opportunities to build lifelong relationships and a support system of people with shared experiences to continue beyond their time at camp and remind them that they do not have to face these challenges on their own.”

Thanks to all of you who participate every year in our BBPR and contribute to this worthy cause as we “Party with a Purpose!” Jan H, President

HEY PARROTHEADS AND PHRIENDS!

We’re looking for pholks who are planning to go to the Jimmy Buffet Concert at Walnut Creek Music Park in Raleigh, NC on Saturday, April 23. The Club is trying to organize a car caravan to Walnut Creek so we can tailgate together. We are thinking of leaving Publix Parking Lot at Emerald Isle at 12 noon.  The gates will open at 3 p.m. and this will give us plenty of time to tailgate prior to the 8 p.m. concert.

Please leave a message in comment section below if  you are interested in joining the EIPHC caravan!  We will contact you with additional information prior to the event.

Wish Upon A Chef 2022

Several EIPHC members were invited to attend the 2022 Wish Upon A Chef event in Wilmington, NC on March 17, 2022. This is the second time that members from the club  have been invited to attend.  The event is a fundraiser for Make a Wish Eastern NC. The evening was filled with food and fun. Attendees sampled appetizers, main dishes and desserts prepared by area chefs as they competed for Best Dish in each category. There were numerous silent auction items and a live auction as well. Several previous “wish” recipients shared their stories and how the Make A Wish organization had impacted their lives. The event raised $275,000 to help grant wishes to the 500 plus children who are currently waiting for “wishes” in our area. The average wish costs approximately $7500. The EIPHC is a supporter of Make A Wish Eastern NC through our Island Santa Bar Crawl which is held each year on the first Saturday in December. The 2021 crawl raised $30,350 for this great cause.
