Gentle Reminder to those who plan on walking for this event next weekend. If you can’t walk, please consider donating by going to the link below. Most of us know someone affected by Alzheimer’s. Parrot Head Clubs around the world do fundraisers for Alzheimer’s, lets do the same!
If you are a Parrot Head and plan on walking, please register on the EIPHC team with the link below and also let Susan Smith know so she can schedule your time. If you have not registered but have contacted Susan, please do the registration now and then see if you can get others to sponsor you.
Emerald Isle Sea Turtle Crawl – . The goal of this event is to have a person or several walking the beach from sunrise to sunset in relay fashion. If you are interested in walking on the Longest Day please send an email with preferred time of day and area you want to walk to Susan Smith ( Parrot Head ) at email@example.com.
Since the goal of this event is to not only bring awareness to Alzheimer’s but to raise money for research and to provide services to those affected by Alzheimer’s, there are several ways that Parrot Heads can help. First of all sign up with Susan to walk. For every Parrot Head that walks, the Club will donate $10. You can also get others to sponsor you and raise even more money. If you can’t walk that day, you can make a direct donation to the total funds raised by the Parrot Head team instead. Anyone can log onto the Parrot Head Team Page by using his link. http://act.alz.org/goto/EIPHC
Walkers should log on to the site and send information to friends, relatives and neighbors, so they can donate as well. Even if you are a Sea Turtle Volunteer and walk, if you are a Parrot Head, the Club will still donate $10 for each Parrot Head Team member. Last year we had 30 walkers and donated $300. Let’s see if we can top that. All donations go directly to the Alzheimer’s Association.
An added benefit to making a donation is a chance to win a stay at Batten the Breeze courtesy of Emerald Isle Realty. With each donation of $50 or more, you will be entered into a drawing for the 3 day stay.
There will also be a fundraiser at Loon Street Art Studio in Emerald Isle where you can paint a sea turtle hatchling. The class is $50 with $15 donated to the EI Sea Turtle Crawl team.
Our own Jack Synan, proprietor of Black Dog Provisionsis catering Hats off to Hospice, an event being hosted by Salty Air Market on Saturday, June 25th. This will be a day of music and entertainment in Cedar Point to benefit the Crystal Coast Hospice House. There will be live music, a beer and wine tent, raffles, games and hat contests. Jack is in need of some volunteers that would like to spend some time starting at 10:00 AM on Saturday to help him plate and serve the food he is providing for the event. Contact Jack at (919)697-3794 if you can help him with this worthy event!
Hello all!!! It’s that time again! Our annual beach bike poker run is Saturday May 21st. I can’t tell you how excited I am to see everybody and put on the biggest Poker Run ever to benefit the Semper Fi Odyssey Kids Camp! I’d like to invite everyone out to the Emerald club Friday, May 20th from 8 to 11 for a special pregame warm-up. One of our favorite local bands, Big Drink will be there playing all our favorite songs. This show, unfortunately, will be different as they recently lost their drummer, Prentice “Jay” Tyndall unexpectedly at age 45. Friday night, Big Drink will be offering their CD’s during the performance for a donation to Jay’s family and Jessi and I will be there running one of our famed 50/50 raffles. The winning ticket will receive half of money raised with the other half going to Jay’s family to help them with expenses. Emerald Club owner Matt Morel has even arranged to have some food there. I think it’s a great opportunity for us to gear up for Saturday’s event while showing support for our local community. After all, it is what we do best! If you are unable to come out Friday night but still interested in supporting Jay’s family you can contact me directly via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 919-623-0653. I hope to see you Friday and Saturday and I’m looking forward to another awesome poker run. Take care!
Marcia McMahan , Lisa Miller, and Rita Babich are hosting this month’s Phirst Phriday Phlocking with a surf theme. The festivities will start around 7:00 on May 6th at the Emerald Club. This month the charity for the 50:50 Raffle will be the Bogue Banks Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation. Come and hang ten with us anticipating fun games including limbo poles, Beach balls and other interesting props!
Last Sunday, a few Parrot Heads decided to check out the Knockerball fundraiser over at the Cape Carteret Aquatic and Wellness Center. After actively watching a full game, we were advised that we could try it out for $5 for 5 minutes. What a Hoot. Photographer Jeanne LaVana captured the final elimination round (object to push everyone out of the circle and be the last one standing). Ken and Sue Stone, Bobbi Raub, Val and Steven Johnson, Anne Schrott and Carol Lauback braved the taunts and had a blast. Steve Johnson was the big winner. Do think we could do this as a great fundraiser……
As a traveling musician for 40 years, I played many shows years ago, in many states where you could go to prison for 20 years for smoking a joint. It was a stupid law based on stupid assumptions. Time has fortunately reversed a lot of that way of thinking. But now another stupid law, based on stupid assumptions, has sprung up like kudzu in North Carolina, where we are scheduled to play shows next week in Raleigh and Charlotte.
North Carolina was there for me as a performer in the early days and I have always felt a loyalty to fans there that goes deep. Rightly so, a lot of people are reacting to the stupid law. I happen to believe that the majority of our fans in North Carolina feel the way I do about that law. I am lucky enough to have found a job in the business of fun. These shows were booked and sold out long before the governor signed that stupid law. I am not going to let stupidity or bigotry trump fun for my loyal fans this year. We will be playing in Raleigh and Charlotte next week.
That said, as for the future of shows in North Carolina, it would definitely depend on whether that stupid law is repealed. That is up to the good people of North Carolina and there are many, and I am confident that they will see that the right thing will be done. As Forrest said, “Stupid is as stupid does.”
Join us for a morning get together at Stir It Up, the coffee shop just down the plaza from Food Lion. We will be Phlash Phlocking from 8:30 till 10:30 and enjoying some beverages and snacks with the new owners of this fine establishment. I know last time we had a “coffee” phlocking everyone enjoyed the change of pace from evening events, so let’s see how many of us can get there this Saturday, April 2nd. Flasks optional……….
The theme for the Phlocking this Friday will be Fools: Backwards & Upside Down!! That’s right, wear your best Jester attire, put your clothes on totally wrong, or even surprise us with your take on the theme………..
For any questions about this month’s get together, contact Carol Lauback or lauren Ginther, as they are organizing the festivities. Look out for some fun games with tunes pumpin’ from DJ Rob. As usual there will be a 50/50 raffle to join and support The Friends of the Library, along with some snacks provided by the Emerald Club.
In addition to the usual club t-shirts being for sale to club members, there will also be awesome EI Parrot Head front license plates available for purchase for $10, so dress up your car as well as yourself!
