The 25th Annual Meeting of the Minds August Update

The 25th Annual Meeting of the Minds 2016 August Update!

Hello Parrot Heads! The registrations are flying in, the volunteer positions are mostly sold out, and MOTM registration closes in 35 days! Don’t get left out! Register NOW!
Volunteer status and Meeting of the Minds
I was sitting on the beach in Key West last night on vacation thinking about all the volunteers that work at Meeting of the Minds to make it the event that it is. Every day of the year I get updates via email and phone calls telling me about all the things that our hard working volunteers are doing to make this event happen. I constantly read about how the clubs of this great organization raise money that collectively amount to millions of dollars and millions of volunteer hours. This is an amazing community to be a part of and Meeting of the Minds is the event that celebrates our success as an organization. If you can make it to MOTM you should come on down and feel the spirit of this special group of people and musicians in 2016. At this point most of our volunteer positions have been slammed to the point we had to close the registration for them. There is only one slot left and we could use your help if you want to volunteer. We need help for the raffle on Saturday from noon to 3:00 PM. If you want to volunteer this would be a place that would really help get everyone raffle tickets at the last minute before our raffle closes. If you want to volunteer for this slot please email Rick Fyffe directly at rjfyffe1@ymail.com  Everything else is covered! Not only do we have a crowd coming that are volunteers before they get here…YOU all volunteer to make MOTM happen. Thank you all. This event is yours and it will be awesome!

Get Your Own Piece of Margaritaville Memorabilia and Support Lone Palm Foundation at the Same Time!

13686629_1625034507807883_692532409289696195_nSubmitted for Sara Kessler, Director of Finance for Lone Palm Foundation:

Most Parrot Heads were saddened last year when it was announced the iconic Margaritaville New Orleans Restaurant was closing its doors.  Although it was a bittersweet goodbye, there’s a silver lining within this story. The nice folks at Margaritaville contacted us and offered to donate several items that were used within the restaurant.  We jumped on the offer to grab up some great Buffett memorabilia and want to share this opportunity with all our Parrot Head community.  So if you’d like to snag your very own piece of the now closed NOLA Margaritaville, read on for details below.
——————————————————————————————————————–
The items being sold include tables, chairs, barstools, and various plates all used in the restaurant.  As such, they may have some imperfections but are all in good condition.  The money raised from the sale of all NOLA Margaritaville items will benefit the Lone Palm Foundation (LPF), which is the official charitable organization of PHIP.  LPF is a 501c3 registered non-profit with the goal of supporting Parrot Heads and the social and environmental needs and concerns within their communities.  The LPF has set up a “Parrot Head Emergency Phund” with the purpose of providing financial assistance to Parrot Heads in need during a natural disaster. For more information on the Lone Palm Foundation, please visit our website at www.lonepalmfoundation.org.
———————————————————————————————————————
Currently, the items are located in two places: Oklahoma City, OK and Johnson City, TN.  The first round of items we will be selling will all be located in Oklahoma City.  There will be another sale of all the Johnson City items at a later date TBD.  Please keep this in mind as some of the items are rather large, and heavy, and costly to ship. You will be responsible for coordinating shipping or pickup of any items you purchase.  If you live closer to Johnson City, you may want to consider waiting for those items to go on sale.
 —————————————————————————————————————–
All items have been set up to view in a Dropbox folder.  You may view the items by using the following link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/94pw4aufowf9i7e/AAD9UFixFMVZlFApUlAchR5Ra?dl=0. As you are looking at items you would like to purchase, I would recommend having one to two alternatives in the event your first choice is not available.
 ———————————————————————————————————————–
The sale will begin Saturday, July 30th at 11:00 am CST.  At that time, you will need to send an email to myself, Sara Kessler, the Director of Finance for the Lone Palm Foundation, at sara.kessler@aol.com.  Please title the email “NOLA OKC Sale” and in the body of the email state your name, Parrot Head club you belong to, and phone number where you would like me to contact you.  I will then begin calling each person based on a first come, first serve basis until all items are sold.  After that point, I will respond to any emails explaining there are no more items available for sale.  Please note, any emails sent prior to 11:00 am CST will not be answered.
 ————————————————————————————————————————
The pricing for the items are as follows:
Tables: $150.00
Chairs: $50.00
Barstools: $75.00
Dinner Plates: 2 for $34.00 (includes shipping)
Small Platters (Three styles available): 2 for $34.00 (includes shipping)
Large (Shark Fin divided) platter:  1 for $50.00 (includes shipping)
If you have any questions, please send an email to me directly at sara.kessler@aol.com.

Emerald Isle Parrot Head Club Beach Bike Poker Run Results

2016 EI Parrothead BBPR2016 Beach Bike Poker Run

The weather leading up to the 2016 Beach Bike Poker Run was looking really ominous, but in true Parrot Head style we squashed the rain and kicked out a sunny fun filled day for all.  Incredible bike decorations this year; PHolks went all out in creativity and craziness and were rewarded with prizes from generous local merchants for their efforts.

Congrats to winners:
FINS – Renee Synan, Tara Dyer, Jessi Holland, Lauren Bressler
FEATHERS – Julie Armani, Jan Hicks, Jessi Holland, Lorretta Alexander
PIRATES – Paul Rodock, Arthur Armani, Bob Messig, Geneise Messig.

There were great tunes cranked out by our own DJ JD (John Dyer) and after the bike decoration contest and some shirts and other bling shot out to the crowd, we had a record 230 fun loving people ready to party and ride for our charity, Semper Fi Odyssey Kids Camp.  We raised $7200 (another new record) that all went to send children of wounded marines and sailors to adventure camp for a week and mentoring for the rest of the year.  Partying with a purpose, this event was a great way to give a little back to the families who have given so much for us. After stopping at each of our sponsor sites (Emerald Club, Jackie’s American Grill, Rucker Johns, the Irish Pirate, Sharks Den, Emerald Grill and Flipperz),  we all made it back to the Emerald Club in one piece and tallied up poker hands garnered from the ride with the winners being: $300 1st – Angie Stabler, $200 2nd – James Hicks, and $100 3rd – Ana Rita Eason.  Congrats!

Raffle winners of lots of great donated prizes were announced, more tunes played, more shirts and bling shot out to the crowd, food put out for grazing, and then Sela Dub up on stage followed by Mike Mixer later on.  Anyone who didn’t have fun on this day had to be legally dead!  A wonderful charity event with lots of fun laughing people at the Emerald Club with our own Parrot Head new owner, the one and only Matt Morel.  Special thanks to the core group of Parrot Heads that stepped up and made this all happen.  See all y’all next year!!

EIPHC MONTHLY PHLOCKING FOR MAY POSTPONED

FIRST FRIDAY PHLOCKING HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO THE SECOND FRIDAY FOR THE MONTH OF MAY   – Matt, who is the new owner of the Emerald Club,   is busy getting all the insurance and permits in place for full operations. So we will not be able to hold our regular PHlocking on the First Friday for this month.  But not to worry, we will still be having the same fun night, just the following Friday instead. Please make every effort to come out on Friday May 13th (what better way to spend Friday the 13th!!)  and support Matt and his new business.  Same theme, same great time to see all your friends.

Beach Bike Poker Run

The Parrot Heads’ biggest fund (and fun) raiser of the year is coming up on Saturday May 21:  THE BEACH BICYCLE POKER RUN!  This is an adult only event. All proceeds go to Semper Fi Odyssey Children’s Adventure Camp sending children of wounded/injured Marines and Sailors to camp for a week and then mentoring them throughout the school year; a chance for the community to give a little back to the families who have given so much for us.  Last year we raised $7000 at this event and had 213 riders, and we hope to top that this year.

Registration ($20) begins in the Emerald Club parking lot at 11:30, with DJ-JD (our own “Dr.” John Dyer) playing great tunes, raffle tickets for a variety of prizes donated by local merchants and Parrot Heads will be on sale, as well as logoed event T shirts.  PHolks are encouraged to dress up their bikes and themselves not only for a fun time and good laugh, but to compete for great prizes in this year’s categories: PIRATES, PHINS , & PHEATHERS; judging for this starts at 1:00.  At 2:00 sharp the masses hop on their bicycles and ride to six designated local restaurant/bars to pick up a poker card.  Upon returning to the Emerald Club no later than 5:00, there are cash prizes for the best poker hand; $300- 1st, $200- 2nd, $100- 3rd , some free grub, and awarding raffle winners.  Sela Dubb will be playing that night followed by Mike Mixer.  A rowdy time for a great cause; DON’T MISS IT!!
