Emerald Isle Parrot Head Club Beach Bike Poker Run Results
The weather leading up to the 2016 Beach Bike Poker Run was looking really ominous, but in true Parrot Head style we squashed the rain and kicked out a sunny fun filled day for all. Incredible bike decorations this year; PHolks went all out in creativity and craziness and were rewarded with prizes from generous local merchants for their efforts.
Congrats to winners:
FINS – Renee Synan, Tara Dyer, Jessi Holland, Lauren Bressler
FEATHERS – Julie Armani, Jan Hicks, Jessi Holland, Lorretta Alexander
PIRATES – Paul Rodock, Arthur Armani, Bob Messig, Geneise Messig.
There were great tunes cranked out by our own DJ JD (John Dyer) and after the bike decoration contest and some shirts and other bling shot out to the crowd, we had a record 230 fun loving people ready to party and ride for our charity, Semper Fi Odyssey Kids Camp. We raised $7200 (another new record) that all went to send children of wounded marines and sailors to adventure camp for a week and mentoring for the rest of the year. Partying with a purpose, this event was a great way to give a little back to the families who have given so much for us. After stopping at each of our sponsor sites (Emerald Club, Jackie’s American Grill, Rucker Johns, the Irish Pirate, Sharks Den, Emerald Grill and Flipperz), we all made it back to the Emerald Club in one piece and tallied up poker hands garnered from the ride with the winners being: $300 1st – Angie Stabler, $200 2nd – James Hicks, and $100 3rd – Ana Rita Eason. Congrats!
Raffle winners of lots of great donated prizes were announced, more tunes played, more shirts and bling shot out to the crowd, food put out for grazing, and then Sela Dub up on stage followed by Mike Mixer later on. Anyone who didn’t have fun on this day had to be legally dead! A wonderful charity event with lots of fun laughing people at the Emerald Club with our own Parrot Head new owner, the one and only Matt Morel. Special thanks to the core group of Parrot Heads that stepped up and made this all happen. See all y’all next year!!
EIPHC MONTHLY PHLOCKING FOR MAY POSTPONED
FIRST FRIDAY PHLOCKING HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO THE SECOND FRIDAY FOR THE MONTH OF MAY – Matt, who is the new owner of the Emerald Club, is busy getting all the insurance and permits in place for full operations. So we will not be able to hold our regular PHlocking on the First Friday for this month. But not to worry, we will still be having the same fun night, just the following Friday instead. Please make every effort to come out on Friday May 13th (what better way to spend Friday the 13th!!) and support Matt and his new business. Same theme, same great time to see all your friends.
Beach Bike Poker Run
The Parrot Heads’ biggest fund (and fun) raiser of the year is coming up on Saturday May 21: THE BEACH BICYCLE POKER RUN! This is an adult only event. All proceeds go to Semper Fi Odyssey Children’s Adventure Camp sending children of wounded/injured Marines and Sailors to camp for a week and then mentoring them throughout the school year; a chance for the community to give a little back to the families who have given so much for us. Last year we raised $7000 at this event and had 213 riders, and we hope to top that this year.
Registration ($20) begins in the Emerald Club parking lot at 11:30, with DJ-JD (our own “Dr.” John Dyer) playing great tunes, raffle tickets for a variety of prizes donated by local merchants and Parrot Heads will be on sale, as well as logoed event T shirts. PHolks are encouraged to dress up their bikes and themselves not only for a fun time and good laugh, but to compete for great prizes in this year’s categories: PIRATES, PHINS , & PHEATHERS; judging for this starts at 1:00. At 2:00 sharp the masses hop on their bicycles and ride to six designated local restaurant/bars to pick up a poker card. Upon returning to the Emerald Club no later than 5:00, there are cash prizes for the best poker hand; $300- 1st, $200- 2nd, $100- 3rd , some free grub, and awarding raffle winners. Sela Dubb will be playing that night followed by Mike Mixer. A rowdy time for a great cause; DON’T MISS IT!!
