Yes, it’s our great nation’s birthday the week of our phlocking set for Friday, July 5, at the E-Club, Emerald Isle, NC, beginning at 7 p.m. There’s no better way to celebrate than with a party thrown by our phlock as we “Party with a Purpose!” Lots of fun is in store, including free food and music provided by Matt and a couple of way-out wacky games for those who love to win prizes! Proceeds from the 50/50 raffle are going to Fairways for Warriors, a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission statement is to support combat wounded warriors to help with their physical and emotional rehabilitation. This is accomplished by using the fun and challenging sport of golf. Funds raised by EIPHC will be designated for combat veterans and their families in Onslow and Carteret Counties. Visit their website at www.fairwaysforwarriors.org to learn more. Our new club t-shirts will be making their debut but won’t last long, so hurry up and buy one! Cindy New, Big Bird, has a July 5 birth date so come wish her a happy birthday as well! Let’s do this!

President’s Notes June 2019
“One Particular Harbor,” it’s a magic kind of medicine that no doctor could prescribe!
The harbor is right here and EIPHC contributes to its magic each year! Our membership continues to grow as we welcome new members and invite them to get involved in our many projects. Our fundraising efforts have magnified with the help from our wonderful and giving membership and the support of our surrounding community. We are something special because we love to party, give our time and money to the people who live around us and need our help, and do it with enthusiasm! The next few months will be busy so be sure to read your newsletter and mark your calendar. You won’t want to miss a thing!
Now into July we go with visions of making 2019 the best year ever, and we’ll continue to do what we do best, “Party with a Purpose!” I hope to celebrate America’s birthday with you at the PHAbulous PHLocking on July 5, beginning at 7 p.m., at the E-Club! See you there! Jan H.
2 Important Events
Next up in July!!!! If you enjoyed the outing to the Kinston Wood Ducks or if you missed the event, we have another chance to party with your fellow Parrot Heads.
Friday, July 12th we have arranged another Baseball outing,( this time a little closer to home) with the Morehead City Marlins playing the Wilson Tobs at the Big Rock Stadium in Morehead City. Not only is it close to home, but they will donate $3 for each ticket sold to Parrot Heads to Broad St. Clinic, a local organization serving uninsured or underinsured individuals with health care needs.
But wait, there is more! The team has agreed to let us use their team bus to and from the game, so we don’t have to worry about driving! The cost for a bus ride and all you can eat hamburgers, hotdogs, fries, popcorn, chips, cracker jacks and soft drinks and the ticket to the game is only $25. If you want to just meet us there (no ride) it is $15 per ticket and includes the all you can eat fun. They have event tents and tables and chairs so you can go back and forth between the game and the tent. They have beer specials, games, prizes and more. Our Parrot Head costume will be tagging along and rumor has it, may mix it up with the Marlin mascot. The bus would leave from the Island at 5:15 pm and return before 11 pm. Bring out your favorite Parrot Head outfit to wear, the staff will have on Hawaiian shirts to recognize the Parrot Heads. We are working on a sign up link through our website where you can pay (should be up next week on the website) or you can pay at the July 5th PHlocking. If the game is rained out, we will reschedule and your tickets are good for any home game.
Longest Day Walk for Alzheimers (Sea Turtle Crawl) Saturday, June 15th. Below is the walking schedule as of Wednesday. We could use more walkers representing the Parrot Heads. Our Club will pay $10 for each walker who is a Parrot Head. How simple a fundraiser is that? If you can spare an hour this Saturday, pick out a shift and location and let Kaye Jones know immediately! To sign up to walk, contact Kaye Jones, at 540-226-6673 or email her at rivarathoo79@gmail.com.

Make sure you get counted as a Parrot Head so the Club will donate $10, you must register on the Emerald Isle Parrot Head Club team page (our Club is an overall team under the Emerald Isle Sea Turtle Crawl) Follow this link to the site, http://act.alz.org/goto/EIPHC – register and/or donate if you are able.
When you open this page, you will have two options.
1. If you want to donate and not walk, you can choose the option to the left. Fundraising progress, donate.
2. If you want to walk and donate, then register (and donate), go to the right and choose join my team. (you still must contact Kay Jones to get scheduled to walk). When you register to join the team and walk, you will have the opportunity to purchase an Alzheimer’s Association Longest Day t-shirt for $5 or a performance t-shirt for $10. There is no registration fee. You will be asked if you have participated before and to put in your log in and password. If you don’t remember (like most of us) put in your email and they will mail you a password and you can reset the password. If you reply no, you need to put in your information. When you register we want to identify who is fundraising for this event on behalf of the EIPHC and we would like you to register your last name in this way: Stone-Parrot Head. Putting the Parrot Head after your name will identify you as a Parrot Head for the Club donation.
3. If you are interested in setting up your own team so you can send info out to friends and relatives, there are a few steps and you can contact Susan Smith at susan.seadreams@gmail.com for a little help.
2019 PHiP Scholarship Winners Announced
Hello Parrot Heads:
It is the extreme honor of the 2019 PHiP Board of Directors to announce the winners of the 2019 scholarships. We would like to thank our judges for their hard work and efforts in reading each and every application. The applicants had to answer three questions as well as submit a blind essay (The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?). Wee received many applications and these fine judges had some very tough decisions to make.
Full congratulations go out to all our applicants and the board wishes each and every one of you good luck with your continued education. It was a very close decision and each of the winners should be very proud of what they do.
The winners of the 2019 scholarships are:
Zachary Erlemann, from Cary North Carolina (Parrot Heads Of North Carolina) is the winner of the first place award of $5000.
Samuel Kwatkosky from Ocala Florida (Ocala Parrothead Club) is the winner of the second place award of $3000.
Anna Lee Twigg from Gambrills Maryland (Annapolis Parrot Head Club) is the winner of the third place award of $2000.
Again, congratulations to the three winners and thank you to all that applied as well as our judges who took many hours out of their days to help in making this very tough decision.
