November Phlocking News

The November EIPHC Phlocking will be held on Friday, November 4th at the Emerald Club. The fun will begin at 7:00pm. Come out and “Party with a Purpose”. November means Thanksgiving, and Thanksgiving means “Family, Food and Football“. Show your team spirit by wearing your best team attire or the colors of your favorite football team. Also, because the real meaning of the holiday is to be THANKFUL for all the blessings in our lives, we will be helping those less fortunate. We will be collecting canned and non-perishable food for the Food Bank and of course our 50/50 drawing will also raise money for charity. As always, there will be fun games and T-shirts available for sale. Phlockings are a great opportunity for non-members to check out all of the fun. Join on the night of the Phlocking and you’ll receive some fun party favors and become a part of a great organization.

PH Sound and Sandbar Cleanup

On Saturday, November 5th the Emerald Isle Parrotheads will participate in an island cleanup effort that is part of The Ocean Conservancy and Carteret Big Sweep programs. This will be the third year that the EI Parrotheads have participated. We will have volunteer opportunities on both land and sea. Currently, we have 6 boat captains willing to take various sized crews aboard. Additional boats would be welcomed! We currently have volunteers waiting to “hitch a ride”. If you are interested in hosting a clean up crew on your boat contact Val Johnson at gocoastalgirl@gmail.com. Boats will meet at the island across from the EI public boat ramp at 11:00am where we will distribute trash bags, gloves and data sheets to record the types and amounts of trash collected. We will head west in the ICW stopping on islands and along the shore of the mainland collecting whatever will fit in our trash bags.  Of course the day will NOT be “all work and no play”.  We will meet at 1:30pm or so on Pelican Island near Swansboro for hot dogs, beverages (BYOB) and maybe even a bonfire.  This is another great Parrothead volunteer opportunity.  Come out and help show some love for our beautiful island and have some fun too!!  Additional information and sign-up sheets will be available at the November Phlocking.

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED BECAUSE A PRELIMINARY CHECK OF THE ISLANDS FOUND MINIMAL TRASH TO PICK UP.  THERE WILL BE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR HIGHWAY CLEAN UP – DETAILS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE PHLOCKING.

Parrothead Christmas Parade Float

It’s hard to believe that it is time to talk about Christmas, but time flies when you’re having fun and the EI Parrotheads are always having fun!! It’s time to plan and construct this year’s TOP SECRET Parrothead float for entry in the EI Christmas Parade. The parade will by held on Saturday, November 26th at 3:00pm. Several PH “float planners” met recently to put together preliminary plans for this year’s float. Volunteers are needed to help with float construction and collection of needed materials. We will be constructing this year’s float using RECYCLED MATERIALS and we need all members to assist us by saving your trash. If you are interested in helping out and joining the float building committee, please come out and join in the fun.  You can contact Sue Stone at stonesend@gmail.com for additional information.  You do not have to attend all session or even be available on parade day (but we hope you are).  There will be plenty of work to do and it will be FUN!!  Float workdays will be Sundays at noon and Wednesdays from 2-6pm.  The planning committe will meet on Wednesday, October 26th at 7pm and the first work session will be Sunday, October 30th.
