The PHiP Bob Heffelfinger Memorial Scholarship Is Now Open

We are proud to announce that The PHiP Bob Heffelfinger Memorial Scholarship Essay Contest for 2025 is NOW OPEN!!!!!!

Summary of the PHiP Scholarship:

The PHiP Bob Heffelfinger Memorial Scholarship is for current Parrot Head Club Members of an officially Chartered Chapter or their children of Parrot Head Club Members, for post secondary education.

Is there an age limit to apply for this scholarship?  No. Are you planning on any type of secondary education even further your degree?  Then yes, you are eligible.

This program was established in 2008. Three scholarships will be awarded in 2025. The funds may be used for tuition, books or living expenses, at an accredited brick and mortar four-year university or college of the student’s choice. The award will be paid to the winners school account, when a student account is established.

PHiP awards 3 awards in the amounts of:

First Place: $5,000
Second Place: $3,000
Third Place: $2,000

Eligibility: Parrot Head Club Members and members children (Sorry nieces, nephews or other extended family members beyond those mentioned are not considered eligible)

*Describe a time when you collaborated with others to achieve a common goal. What did you learn from the experience?

It is VERY important the applicant follows ALL of the rules and instructions. Only typed, electronic submissions will be accepted. Incomplete applications will not be considered eligible.

Make no references to your identity, your local parrot head club or your location in your essay entry OR your question and statement responses.

All applications must be signed at the appropriate place. We accept electronic signatures.

Message from PHIP President 

With the recent passing of Jimmy Buffett, we in Parrot Head Nation are living through grief, even as we ask ourselves and each other the question “what’s next?” While the grief is natural and inescapable and difficult, the answer to the question is easy because Jimmy himself answered it: “Keep the party going.”

When Jimmy and Parrot Heads talk about a “party,” it means more to us than to most. Yes, we will have fun, dance, sing and have drinks with umbrellas. But our party comes with many purposes. We Parrot Heads have created, in the words of Jimmy’s wife Jane, “the world’s most joyful community.” It is built on love, kindness, generosity, charity and smiles, and its soundtrack is the music of Jimmy Buffett and the many musicians inspired by him.

And in this season, our party will also be about honoring the man whose own kindness and joy and generosity made it all possible. And we will cry and laugh together and support each other as members of Jimmy’s “big, boisterous family.”

This year’s Meeting of the Minds takes on new and deeper meaning with Jimmy’s passing. For the first time, we gather in the place of Jimmy’s birth and childhood after a quarter century of meeting in his Key West stomping grounds. For the first time in many years, there will be no mystery and no rumors about a surprise appearance. And yet ironically, it will be a gathering at which Jimmy’s presence and spirit will be felt more than ever in the sights and the sounds of the event and especially in the hearts of those in attendance.

It is important to gather in grief and celebration of life, to reflect and reminisce together, and to share a healing hug or two or three thousand. We invite you, whether you have been just once or twice or never before, to join Parrot Heads from around the world in Gulf Shores next month. It’s a new location, but it will feel like home. After all, you’ll be with family.

Summer Scholarship Raffle Is Back

Once again we are having a summer raffle to help support the PHiP Bob Heffelfinger Memorial Scholarship.   Our friends at Margaritaville At Seas have graciously donated a cruise for this year’s raffle.
 
Tickets can be bought individually or as a club.  Club donations count toward Domino College recognition.  Clubs can also use this prize toward your own fundraisers. 
Please pass this information around to all your club members so that everyone has the chance for this great prize.  The easiest way to pass this information along is to cut and paste this email and include it in your club email correspondence.
 
Parrot Heads in Paradise has been awarding qualified parrot heads and their children a total of $10,000 in scholarship every year for the last 13 years. fundraising has been just keeping pace with our payouts each year and we want to continue to add to the funds to ensure future years have adequate funding.  To make sure that we can continue to award these funds well into the future we have come up with a great way to help the cause.   Margaritaville at Sea has donated this cruise for two to raffle off .  We will be selling tickets via PayPal or check going through August 30th.  We will draw for the trip the second week of September via Facebook live.  Tickets are five for $20 or five dollars for one.  I will send you via email with the list of your numbers so you have them for your records.  I will be tracking the name and numbers of every ticket coming in.  You can pay via PayPal https://www.paypal.com/home to PHiPscholarshipraffle@yahoo.com
