April Phlocking – April 5, 2019

Spring has sprung and it’s time for our monthly Phlocking on Friday, April 5th from 7:00-9:00pm.  As always, we will gather at the E-CLub for some Parrothead Phun!! April is Autism Awareness Month and while we “Party with a Purpose”, we will be raising money for The Crystal Coast Autism Center. We will have Autism Awareness bracelets available for a small donation and our 50/50 drawing will also benefit The Crystal Coast Autism Center. Matt will be providing free food, drink specials and music for our listening pleasure. The weather is improving everyday, so hopefully we can enjoy the outside area and celebrate the end of winter. Come out and help us welcome Spring and raise some money for a GREAT CAUSE!!

President’s Notes February 2019

Good day my fellow Parrot Heads! February has gone by fast with its Super Bowl celebrations and its sweet hugs and kisses on St. Valentine’s Day. Now, get ready for a cheery “Top of the Morning!” as we celebrate the Emerald Isle St. Patty’s Day Festival on Saturday, March 16. Come support our volunteers working at the EIPHC booth onsite. We are proudly sponsoring as our charity Family Promise of Carteret County whose mission is to assist the homeless.
We’re rolling out more events this Spring for your enjoyment! Be sure to Save the Date for our infamous EIPHC Beach Bike Poker Run on May 18, 2019. Personally, this is one of my favorites because it involves a bunch of Fruitcakes like me enjoying a chaotic but somehow organized poker run on bicycles to participating establishments on the Island! All profits will be donated to Semper Fi Fund Kids Camp for local Onslow and Carteret County children of wounded warriors. The families of these kids are so grateful for our love and support every year.
In addition, don’t miss our “Fins Up” Party Weekend. The Beer & Baseball Bus Tour begins at 12 noon on June 1. On June 2, the Emerald Club is hosting a “Fins Up” Party with live music from Rick Lamb and the Phin-Addicts. I can’t believe these guys are performing for us at the Wood Ducks game on Saturday and then again Sunday afternoon at the E-Club. They are an award-winning, popular and loved band on the Trop Rock Circuit and played inside and outside the States! These are Parrot Head party music veterans and have promised us a great show at both events! So, spread your wings and come fly with us! NOTE: Registration for the Beer & Ballgame Adventure is available on-line until March 10.
Details of these and more events can be found on our website at www.emeraldisleparrotheads.com. Make sure you SAVE THESE DATES! I can’t wait to “Party with a Purpose,” can you? Jan Hicks

Shamrock Shenanigans Phlocking March 1st☘️…

It’s Phlocking time again. Join the fun at 7:00 at the Emerald Club, March 1st. They are located in Hubert and do wonderful things everyday for wonderful people in our community! Hoping Spring will have sprung by then and you can come out and phlock with us!

SOUPER BOWL 2019

The Emerald Isle Parrot Heads would like to invite you to join us for another day of fun to support a great cause. Come out and watch the 2019 Super Bowl and cheer on the team of your choosing or just choose the best commercial. We will be hosting a SOUPER BOWL PARTY at Island Time Tavern on Sunday, February 3rd from 4:40pm until the big game is done. Please plan to bring your favorite SOUP (soup, stew or chili), appetizers or dessert to share. There will be drink specials and some fun and games. Feel free to wear your favorite team jersey or fan attire, even if they didn’t make it to the big game. Non-perishable foods and cash donations will be collected on the day of the event to benefit a local soup kitchen. Come out and Phlock with your Phriends!  Sign-up sheets will be available at the February Phlocking (2/2/19) and at Island Time Tavern or you can just show up the day of the event.  Look for the event posting on Facebook.

NC Coastal Federation Hoop Pole Creek Litter Pick UP

Saturday, January 12th 10 am to noon. Well I just learned of an event that we have always participated in for many years and in fact we are their primary source of labor/volunteers. The Hoop Pole Creek clean up used to be in March but was moved to January a year or two ago. Somehow I did not get a notice (or even notice it was happening) until our Highway Pickup Big Bird Jean Jensen told me at the PHlocking. If after reading the information below, you think you can give a hand with this all important clean up, please email Jean at belguimboy@aol.com. The Coastal Federation needs a number so they will have extra gloves and drinks and snacks available. Hope you can make it. For those that would like to lunch with the other Parrot Head Litter Picker Uppers, let Jean know so he knows if he needs to make reservations. Always a good time.

When:
January 12, 2019
10 a.m. until 12 p.m.

Where:
Hoop Pole Creek Nature Preserve
Milepost 3.5, N.C. 58
Atlantic Beach, NC 28512

Help us protect coastal wildlife and habitats by cleaning up the Hope Pole Creek Natural Trail!.

Join the federation on Saturday, Jan. 12 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Hoop Pole Creek Nature Preserve in Atlantic Beach. Hoop Pole Creek is a coastal creek, salt marsh and maritime forest preserve that continues to be rich with oysters, fish and other wildlife. Volunteers will help to pick up trash and debris, as well as trim trees and bushes along the nature trail, and clean off the boardwalk.

This entire event will take place outdoors, so dress accordingly. Sturdy shoes for walking in wet areas are also recommended. Boots are appropriate if you choose to walk along the water’s edge. Trash bags, gloves and other cleanup materials will be provided. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Lunch and refreshments will be provided for all volunteers after the cleanup.

For more information on the progress of this project over the past three years visit www.nccoast.org/crabpotproject.

President’s Notes, December 2018

Cheers to the passing of 2018! Another chapter is written in our “Book of Parrot Head Tales.” Exciting stories include monthly phlockings, St. Patty’s Day Celebration, Disc Golf Tournament, Land and Sea clean ups, and Island and Beach parties. Then there’s wild accountings of a daring Diva Walk, a hot chili cookoff, the building of a hippie bus, and an Island Santa Bar Crawl. But the best 2018 stories were those of many helping hands, strong working heroes, outstanding sacrifices, major giving and encouraging support for those affected by Flo! Yes folks, this has been one “well” of a year, full of wonder and mystery, calamity and joy. We have all written these stories together!

It’s now time to look forward to a new chapter waiting to be written. Let’s plan on 2019 being fantastically amazing. Come live, love, laugh, sing, dance, dream, play, give, smile and work with us at EIPHC! You can be an important part of what we do. Register for membership on line or sign up at our next phlocking on Friday, January 4, and help us write the next chapter as “we party with a purpose.” Jan Hicks
