Important Island/Sand Bar Party Info

August 5 – Sunday -1:00 PM Island/Sand Bar Party at Pelican Island Parrot Heads and friends will arrive by boat, kayak, canoe, or other(?) for a time that we get together and relax, enjoy each other’s company and spend a fun-filled day at the beach swimming, eating, playing games, and listening to great music. Below are items that need SPECIAL ATTENTION so that your attendance will go without a glitch and you can get your party on. (Pelican Island is across from the Swansboro Yacht Club and has a small dock and large American Flag)

1. OPEN ONLY TO ALL MEMBERS OR MEMBER GUESTS OVER 21 AND NO PETS
2. A SIGNED WAIVER IS REQUIRED. This is a new requirement. The waiver can be signed at the PHlocking on Friday, August 3, or you can sign upon your arrival on the Island. A registration station will be set up at the PHlocking and on the Island or if using Parrot Head boat pickup, you must sign the waiver before the boat can leave the dock. Wristbands will be issued on the Island for all those who have signed. THE WRISTBAND MUST BE WORN IN ORDER TO ATTEND.
3. FERRY: We have two boats for pickup of participants. They will run from 12:30 p.m until 2:30 p.m, to and from Swansboro Town Dock, in 15 to 30 minute intervals. Return trips will begin at 4, so our Captains Jason Holland and Steve Johnson get a chance to chill and hang out for a bit of the party. We may even save some food for them.
4. HOT DOGS/HAMBURGERS, The cooks will grill the meat prior to and during the party. However, the grill closes at 2 so make sure you are there in time to grab your share.
5. Please bring a dish to share and your own beverage of choice.
6. SWIMMING AREA. You are advised to stay within the designated swimming area since often there are currents that could take you away or place you right in front of a boat. YIKES!
7. WATER SHOES AND SUN SCREEN. Water shoes are a great way to avoid shell cuts and pelican poo! Also, don’t forget your sun screen.
8. UMBRELLA, TENTS AND CHAIRS, are highly recommended for your comfort and shade.
9. SAFETY. There’s some poison ivy, slippery mud, spotty weeds and bushes, and a very ugly potty waiting. Additionally, a bunch of boats will be sharing the same site, so be sure to keep your wits about you and help look after each other.
Just so you know, this is the Annual event where we “fun raise”. No money involved, just a way to thank our members for doing such good things all year. The Club provides hamburgers, hotdogs, rolls and condiments, a few games, a swimming spot, music and all y’all provide the fun, a dish to share and chairs, umbrellas, sunglasses and sun screen. No dogs allowed (due to food stealing, spilled drinks and general mayhem) Everyone is invited and you can bring guests but it is not a public event.

EIPHC President’s Notes, July 2018

Words can’t express how proud I am of our EIPHC! This year has been fantastic and incredibly rewarding. If you haven’t done so already or want to catch up, you can read about us on the National Parrot Head Club website at https://www.phip.com/ and by selecting “Clubs and Chapter Info”, then selecting the Tradewind Times on the left, in which we are celebrated as the Featured Club. This publication is distributed to all PH clubs around the world. As evidenced, EIPHC has provided extraordinary events and phlockings throughout the year and more amazing “stuff” is yet to come! That means more work is left to be done. So, ”What Would Jimmy Buffet do?”

“Breathe in, breathe out, move on.” Catch a deep breath, spread your wings, take flight, and join the phlock as we “move on” through the remaining year. Don’t miss an opportunity to change lives, improve the environment, and help make this world an even better place, while having fun doing it! There’s a place waiting just for you to serve as an EIPHC volunteer. You can sign up at one of our monthly phlockings, contact us on our website, or feel free to contact president@emeraldisleparrotheads.com and I’ll be happy to help you find your place so that together we can Party with a Purpose! On May 19, 2018, the Emerald Isle Parrot Head’s hosted their 15th Annual Beach Bike Poker Run. With 242 participants this was the 2nd largest in history of the event. Each participant rode their bike or walked to the seven poker stops, drew a poker card, and tried to create the best poker hand possible. Congratulations to Lee Ott for buying his mulligan and coming up with four aces for the winning hand. He took home $300 in cash.   Aside from the poker hand competition, the Parrot Head’s also hosted a bicycle decoration contest. The creativity of the Parrot Head’s is second to none! The evening ended with a live auction. The giving hearts of the Emerald Isle community were magnified during our auction. This was the first year of the live auction and what a success it was, brining in $3000.

Local The profits of this event were donated to the Semper Fi Fund Kids Camp. The camp allows children of injured service members of all branches from Carteret and Onslow counties to enjoy a week of personal growth and adventure. Following the week of camp, campers are paired with a mentor the year. This allows the continued growth of these children who have faces so much in their lives. 2018 was another record breaking year for the fundraising efforts of the Emerald Isle Parrot Heads. Through hard work, the generosity of our poker stops, sponsors and the kind-hearted members of the Emerald Isle community $15,000 was donated on June 6th to the Semper Fi Fund.  Last year the Parrot Heads raised funds to cover the expenses of 21 campers and four mentors. In true Parrot Head fashion, we partied with a purpose! We are excited to see how many  more campers and mentors this $15,000 donation will impact!

The EIPHC will honor our country and patriotism during our July Phlocking on July 6, 2018 from 7-9 pm at the E-Club. Collected food items are then distributed to the needy in our area.
