Lone Palm Foundation – Hurricane Florence

Good morning Parrot Heads,

Florence has created flooding over significant portions of North Carolina and South Carolina.

This morning we were informed of Parrot Head’s evacuating due to flooding in NC.
Many of our club members are going to need our assistance in the coming days.  To donate to the Parrot Head Emergency PHUND or for further information and applications visit:  Lone Palm Foundation – Parrot Heads helping Parrot Heads

Our main focus of providing financial assistance to Parrot Heads in times of natural disaster couldn’t be furthered without the help of the Parrot Head nation, or world.  In 2017 we banded together as a phlock to assist in the clean up and recovery of Harvey, Irma and Maria through volunteerism, as well as financial and emotional assistance. Kristin McFadden’s ingenious blue t-shirt best describes 2017: “Parrot Head Strong – We Will Rebuild”.  The foundation would like to thank everyone who donated on behalf of our efforts in 2017

When a hurricane hits land fall, a tornado touches down or flooding occurs and any of our current PHIP, Inc. PARROT HEADS are victims of a natural disaster, information and applications for the Parrot Head Emergency PHUND are available on the Parrot Head Emergency Phund Guidelines on the Lone Palm Foundation website.

Finally, don’t forget to mark your calendars for Saturday, November 3rd and attend the Lone Palm Foundation LIVE Auction immediately following the PHIP, Inc.. general meeting at the Casa Marina in Key West, FL..  We will have autographed memorabilia from Mr. Buffett and much more.. Get there early to reserve your bidding number! As always, proceeds will benefit the Parrot Head Emergency PHUND.

EIPHC President’s Notes, August 2018

I wondered what Parrot Heads and Parrots might have in common other than Jimmy Buffet! After a little research, I discovered that parrots scream, sometimes bite and they’re messy! They are very social creatures and mostly live in flocks. Parrots communicate with others in the flock with vocalizations and by shaking their tail feathers. They can come in multiple colors, greens, reds, yellows, blues, orange, even a combination of all of them.

There you have it! Can you see the similarities in the EIPHC PHlock? We are loud, persistent, and occasionally bite off more than we can chew, and we are known to be messy! We’re about as social as you can get and love to PHlock. We speak the same language when our diverse and colorful group come together to work and play. Lastly, shaking the tail PHeathers is our PHavorite pastime! Okay, so we’re not perfect! But, we sure are beautiful! We have accomplished so many goals throughout these 16 years. Our talent and strength as a PHlock make us unstoppable. Thank you all for being a part of the magic we spin!

New birds are encouraged and welcomed to join the EIPHC PHlock. Please visit our website at www.emeraldisleparrotheads.com and sign up online or look for our membership table at the next PHlocking, Friday, September 7, 2018. Be sure to check out our calendar for more events and join us as we “Party with a Purpose!” Jan

A HUGE “THANK YOU!” FROM PELICAN ISLAND BIG BIRDS

James and Cris thank all of you who volunteered and participated in the Pelican Island Parrot Head Party yesterday. It was a blast from the beginning until the end (ended a bit early due to approaching thunder storms). Everyone played together “come rain or shine” and some funny stories will be shared. Again, the Parrot Heads proved to be amazingly determined to have a great time anywhere, anytime! Real Fruitcakes!

We have attempted to list all who volunteered, but if you are not listed, just know that you are appreciated as always for making this happen. Here we go…thanks to Carol, Richard, Jimi, Nicole, Bobbi, Jeanne, Jason, Steve, Val, Leonard, Gary, Donna, Jan, Kathy, Matt and and both Joshes for clearing and cleaning the island, purchasing and preparing the food, grilling the meat, gathering and disbursing the waivers, running the shuttles, providing the games and prizes, digging holes and setting up tents, loading and unloading the boats, and saving the DJ from the rain (a big one)! Special thanks to DJ Robbie for his great tunes and tropical attitude! PHINS UP!!!

Host a Phlocking…

Hi everyone! I hope you’re having a great summer!!!
I am presenting the opportunity for you and your friends to host one of our remaining PHlockings. Available dates are…Sept. 7th, Oct. 5th, and Nov. 2nd (As always, 1st Friday of each month @ 7pm). Hosting a PHlocking is as simple as choosing a local charity and raising $$$ by selling 50/50 raffle tickets?!?
Please contact me if you’re interested. Thanks all,

EIPHC ANNIVERSARY PARTY-SUNDAY AUGUST 5TH-PELICAN ISLAND

Please Note Change, Children may attend with signed waiver……

August 5 – Sunday -1:00 PM Island/Sand Bar Party at Pelican Island Parrot Heads and
friends will arrive by boat, kayak, canoe, or other(?) for a time that we get together and relax, enjoy each other’s company and spend a fun-filled day at the beach swimming, eating, playing games, and listening to great music. Below are items that need SPECIAL ATTENTION so that your attendance will go without a glitch and you can get your party on. (Pelican Island is across from the Swansboro Yacht Club and has a small dock and large American Flag)

1.. A SIGNED WAIVER IS REQUIRED. This is a new requirement. The waiver can
be signed at the PHlocking on Friday, August 3, or you can sign upon your arrival
on the Island. A registration station will be set up at the PHlocking and on the
Island or if using Parrot Head boat pickup, you must sign the waiver before the
boat can leave the dock. Wristbands will be issued on the Island for all those who
have signed. THE WRISTBAND MUST BE WORN IN ORDER TO ATTEND.

2. We will have available a Waiver for a parent or legal guardian to sign for and on behalf of their child or children who will receive a wristband at the event.  (this is a change, previous information said children may not attend.  They can attend with a signed waiver.)

3. FERRY: We have two boats for pickup of participants. They will run from 12:30
p.m until 2:30 p.m, to and from Swansboro Town Dock, in 15 to 30 minute intervals.
Return trips will begin at 4, so our Captains Jason Holland and Steve Johnson get a
chance to chill and hang out for a bit of the party. We may even save some food for
them.
4. HOT DOGS/HAMBURGERS, The cooks will grill the meat prior to and during the
party. However, the grill closes at 2 so make sure you are there in time to grab your
share.
5. Please bring a dish to share and your own beverage of choice.
6. SWIMMING AREA. You are advised to stay within the designated swimming area
since often there are currents that could take you away or place you right in front of
a boat. YIKES!
7. WATER SHOES AND SUN SCREEN. Water shoes are a great way to avoid shell
cuts and pelican poo! Also, don’t forget your sun screen.
8. UMBRELLA, TENTS AND CHAIRS, are highly recommended for your comfort
and shade.
9. SAFETY. There’s some poison ivy, slippery mud, spotty weeds and bushes, and a
very ugly potty waiting. Additionally, a bunch of boats will be sharing the same site,
so be sure to keep your wits about you and help look after each other.
Just so you know, this is the Annual event where we “fun raise”. No money involved, just a
way to thank our members for doing such good things all year. The Club provides
hamburgers, hotdogs, rolls and condiments, a few games, a swimming spot, music and all
y’all provide the fun, a dish to share and chairs, umbrellas, sunglasses and sun screen. No
dogs allowed (due to food stealing, spilled drinks and general mayhem) Everyone is
invited and you can bring guests but it is not a public event.

EIPHC President’s Notes, July 2018

Words can’t express how proud I am of our EIPHC! This year has been fantastic and incredibly rewarding. If you haven’t done so already or want to catch up, you can read about us on the National Parrot Head Club website at https://www.phip.com/ and by selecting “Clubs and Chapter Info”, then selecting the Tradewind Times on the left, in which we are celebrated as the Featured Club. This publication is distributed to all PH clubs around the world. As evidenced, EIPHC has provided extraordinary events and phlockings throughout the year and more amazing “stuff” is yet to come! That means more work is left to be done. So, ”What Would Jimmy Buffet do?”

“Breathe in, breathe out, move on.” Catch a deep breath, spread your wings, take flight, and join the phlock as we “move on” through the remaining year. Don’t miss an opportunity to change lives, improve the environment, and help make this world an even better place, while having fun doing it! There’s a place waiting just for you to serve as an EIPHC volunteer. You can sign up at one of our monthly phlockings, contact us on our website, or feel free to contact president@emeraldisleparrotheads.com and I’ll be happy to help you find your place so that together we can Party with a Purpose!
