Lone Palm Foundation – Hurricane Florence

Good morning Parrot Heads,

Florence has created flooding over significant portions of North Carolina and South Carolina.

This morning we were informed of Parrot Head’s evacuating due to flooding in NC.
Many of our club members are going to need our assistance in the coming days.  To donate to the Parrot Head Emergency PHUND or for further information and applications visit:  Lone Palm Foundation – Parrot Heads helping Parrot Heads

Our main focus of providing financial assistance to Parrot Heads in times of natural disaster couldn’t be furthered without the help of the Parrot Head nation, or world.  In 2017 we banded together as a phlock to assist in the clean up and recovery of Harvey, Irma and Maria through volunteerism, as well as financial and emotional assistance. Kristin McFadden’s ingenious blue t-shirt best describes 2017: “Parrot Head Strong – We Will Rebuild”.  The foundation would like to thank everyone who donated on behalf of our efforts in 2017

When a hurricane hits land fall, a tornado touches down or flooding occurs and any of our current PHIP, Inc. PARROT HEADS are victims of a natural disaster, information and applications for the Parrot Head Emergency PHUND are available on the Parrot Head Emergency Phund Guidelines on the Lone Palm Foundation website.

Finally, don’t forget to mark your calendars for Saturday, November 3rd and attend the Lone Palm Foundation LIVE Auction immediately following the PHIP, Inc.. general meeting at the Casa Marina in Key West, FL..  We will have autographed memorabilia from Mr. Buffett and much more.. Get there early to reserve your bidding number! As always, proceeds will benefit the Parrot Head Emergency PHUND.

Sincerely,Jim Brogren

EIPHC ANNIVERSARY PARTY-SUNDAY AUGUST 5TH-PELICAN ISLAND

Please Note Change, Children may attend with signed waiver……

August 5 – Sunday -1:00 PM Island/Sand Bar Party at Pelican Island Parrot Heads and
friends will arrive by boat, kayak, canoe, or other(?) for a time that we get together and relax, enjoy each other’s company and spend a fun-filled day at the beach swimming, eating, playing games, and listening to great music. Below are items that need SPECIAL ATTENTION so that your attendance will go without a glitch and you can get your party on. (Pelican Island is across from the Swansboro Yacht Club and has a small dock and large American Flag)

1.. A SIGNED WAIVER IS REQUIRED. This is a new requirement. The waiver can
be signed at the PHlocking on Friday, August 3, or you can sign upon your arrival
on the Island. A registration station will be set up at the PHlocking and on the
Island or if using Parrot Head boat pickup, you must sign the waiver before the
boat can leave the dock. Wristbands will be issued on the Island for all those who
have signed. THE WRISTBAND MUST BE WORN IN ORDER TO ATTEND.

2. We will have available a Waiver for a parent or legal guardian to sign for and on behalf of their child or children who will receive a wristband at the event.  (this is a change, previous information said children may not attend.  They can attend with a signed waiver.)

3. FERRY: We have two boats for pickup of participants. They will run from 12:30
p.m until 2:30 p.m, to and from Swansboro Town Dock, in 15 to 30 minute intervals.
Return trips will begin at 4, so our Captains Jason Holland and Steve Johnson get a
chance to chill and hang out for a bit of the party. We may even save some food for
them.
4. HOT DOGS/HAMBURGERS, The cooks will grill the meat prior to and during the
party. However, the grill closes at 2 so make sure you are there in time to grab your
share.
5. Please bring a dish to share and your own beverage of choice.
6. SWIMMING AREA. You are advised to stay within the designated swimming area
since often there are currents that could take you away or place you right in front of
a boat. YIKES!
7. WATER SHOES AND SUN SCREEN. Water shoes are a great way to avoid shell
cuts and pelican poo! Also, don’t forget your sun screen.
8. UMBRELLA, TENTS AND CHAIRS, are highly recommended for your comfort
and shade.
9. SAFETY. There’s some poison ivy, slippery mud, spotty weeds and bushes, and a
very ugly potty waiting. Additionally, a bunch of boats will be sharing the same site,
so be sure to keep your wits about you and help look after each other.
Just so you know, this is the Annual event where we “fun raise”. No money involved, just a
way to thank our members for doing such good things all year. The Club provides
hamburgers, hotdogs, rolls and condiments, a few games, a swimming spot, music and all
y’all provide the fun, a dish to share and chairs, umbrellas, sunglasses and sun screen. No
dogs allowed (due to food stealing, spilled drinks and general mayhem) Everyone is
invited and you can bring guests but it is not a public event.

Hello Parrot Heads:

It is the extreme honor of the 2018 PHiP Board of Directors to announce the winners of the 2018 scholarships. We would like to thank our judges for their hard work and efforts in reading each and every application. The applicants had to answer three questions as well as submit a blind essay (Explain a family, social, or school situation in which your leadership made a difference. What was accomplished? We received many applications and these fine judges had some very tough decisions to make.

Full congratulations go out to all our applicants and the board wishes each and every one of you good luck with your continued education. It was a very close decision and each of the winners should be very proud of what they do.

The winners of the 2018 scholarships are:

Emily Jo Scircle from Lexington, South Carolina (Palmetto Parrot Head Club) is the winner of the first place award of $5000.

Haley Davis from Austin, Arizona (Little Rock Parrot Head Club) is the winner of the second place award of $3000.

Raquel J Armas from Cicero, Illinois (Chicago Parrot Head Club) is the winner of the third place award of $2000.

Again, congratulations to the three winners and thank you to all that applied as well as our judges who took many hours out of their days to help in making this very tough decision.

They have one option of a 27 mile tour of the island by water for YOUR low price of $99 which is a nice savings. http://barefootbillys.com/

All Parrot Heads registered for Meeting of the Minds 2018 will get a FREE special drink during Meeting of the Minds 2018. All you have to do is present your credential and ask for the special MOTM drink at Margaritaville key West on Duval Street during Meeting of the Minds. Also with your credential YOU will receive a special discount of 10% OFF on anything from the retail shop! Yes there will be a special charity shirt this year from Margaritaville Key West. Casa Marina Host Hotel Status
The beautiful Casa Marina is currently sold out. All that said there may be a cancellation during the year as the event approaches due to life changes as we all know about. If you want to be in line for a cancellation you can book a room at the Reach to be on the standby list for the Casa Marina!
The 2018 MOTM Wait List for the Casa Marina – Here are the 3 steps below:
  1. Register for Meeting of the Minds 2018.
REMEMBER YOU MUST BE REGISTERED FOR MEETING OF THE MINDS 2018 TO STAY AT THE CASA MARINA OR BE ON THE WAIT LIST FOR THE CASA.
  1. Book your room at the Reach Resort. While our awesome Parrot Head rate is only valid at the Casa Marina the Reach is offering a discount to our group this year. This Reach Resort rate will not be as low as the Casa rate but there is a booking discount for MOTM Parrot Heads. There are some Casa Marina cancellations every year so booking early will put you up the list as we do go in order to move people over as vacancy happens through the year. This can happen right up to the event so give the hotel your cell number not your home number for contact!
  1. Email our MOTM Director of Registration Rick Fyffe at rjfyffe1@ymail.com
Put in the title of your email “MOTM Casa Marina Wait List.” Tell Rick you are booked at the Reach and registered for MOTM.  Rick will add you to the Casa Marina wait list in the order in which you contact him.
We have to fill the Casa Marina so we will work very hard to move everyone we can as cancellations occur. We will be working down the order in which you reply to Rick Fyffe. Sorry for any confusion but it is best to manage this list through Rick vs. contacting the hotel.
Here is the special link to the Reach Resort for our group discount – Again this is NOT the same rate as the Casa Marina. Simply copy and paste the URL below into your browser to access the exclusive rates available just for Parrot Heads!
The Reach Resort offers a special MOTM Only Parrot Head 10% discount for the online rates and will also honor discounted resort fee of $20. The current public resort fee is $40.
Mini Mart at the Casa Marina!
Our Mini Mart will be full of sponsors and vendors for you to come by and visit. Be sure you make it to the Mini Mart party with live music on Thursday morning and all through the event to see what we have planned for you!  There will be plenty of things for you to purchase and check out! Be sure you drop by several times during Meeting of the Minds! More to come on the Mini Mart!
Halloween Contest!
This year Halloween falls on Wednesday during the start of Meeting of the Minds 2018. On the MAIN STAGE at the Casa Marina we will have a contest sponsored by the Casa Marina so start picking your costume now! There will be some nice prizes and a ton of Parrot Head PHun!
Entertainment Schedule!
Bands! Bands! Bands! This year there will be more bands featuring your favorite artists than ever before at MOTM. Many of the Coral Reefer Band and even Coral Reefer band alumni are lined up to come to MOTM 2018. The schedule always gets tweaked up to the day of the event so keep an eye on the listing for any changes! The 2018 entertainment schedule is up on line for your viewing pleasure! Don’t miss the WELCOME TO KEY WEST PARTY on the main stage on Wednesday night!! Watch the sun go down on beach as the party gets started!
What a value MOTM is! Five days of non-stop music from artists you love and your favorite artists from the Coral Reefer Band along with alumni members playing in all kinds of configurations!
More to come over the next few weeks! Don’t delay registering and getting your plans ready for another awesome time in Key West at Meeting of the Minds! Until next time, I’ll see you, down the road!

Parrot Heads in Paradise have been awarding qualified parrot heads and their children a total of $10,000 in scholarships every year for the last 10 years. Fundraising has been just keeping pace with our pay-outs each year and we want to add some additional funds to ensure future years’ have adequate funding. To make sure that we can continue to award these gifts well into the future we have come up with a great way to help that cause. Windjammer cruises has donated a cruise for two to raffle off this year. We will be selling tickets via PayPal or check starting today.
