Save bags to help with research!

We recently received the following email request; let’s see if we can help Caitlin (one of our newer members) out with some supplies.

Hi Sue,

Can you send out an email asking PH’s to save paper grocery bags for me? Any bag will help. We’ll be using them to store some vegetation samples from our marsh field work. As funding is practically non existent for sea level rise studies (shocking! I know…) any donations of bags will be helpful for one less thing to spend our grant money on.

Thank you!

Caitlin Lauback

You can bring the bags you save to any Parrot Head event, or contact us at info@emeraldisleparrotheads.com if you have some bags for Caitlin.

Christmas Parade Float meeting

Emerald Isle Christmas Parade Float Meeting at Sue and Ken ‘s house (StonesEnd) on October 14th at 6:30.  (9701 Ashley Place in EI)Parrotheads[1]This will be a planning meeting to solidify our ideas for this year’s float and take stock of what materials are available. Jeannine Patane will be heading up the project as Big Bird and herding all of us cats as the float takes shape.

Christmas Parade float committee/planning

The EI Christmas Parade is right around the corner and we have a lot of planning to do.

Last year's float with some of the "crew".
Last year’s float with some of the “crew”.

The parade is always held the Saturday after Thanksgiving.   Since Erin and Kelley are busy launching their new art studio and traveling all over to craft fairs, they won’t be able to be our project directors this year (still hoping they will be our consultants…..). Jeannine Patane has stepped up and will be large and in charge but we need a lot of help.   There will be a planning session in October (date to be determined) and we will have a sign up sheet available at the PHlocking. Once a core group decides this year’s theme (suggestions welcome and we will have an ideas sheet at the PHlocking this week) we will set up a work schedule. No qualifications necessary as we are a bit like organized chaos.   We usually build it at Stone’s End (Ken and Sue Stone’s backyard) for about 6 weeks of a few weekend afternoons .   You don’t have to be there every date, we get people who come and go who love to have fun, eat and drink, do a bit of painting and cutting of card board. If you haven’t joined us before, please consider it. A great way to get to know your fellow Parrot Heads (and we always seem to win cause it always turns out awesome) If you think you can help “lead” the group on some part of the float building, please email me at stonesend@gmail.com .   We have a history of being one of the best floats and when we win (not if) we donate the prize money to a charity.

October 2015 Phlocking

October 2nd, 7 PM First Friday PHlocking at the Emerald Club – This will be the start of a great weekend! We will be working on some fun apple peeling activities to get ready for making apple butter the next day. We won’t be peeling all the apples at the PHlocking like last year, but we will have a few contests that are “apple related”. Instead, we will have a group of volunteers who will be peeling at the Synan household from 4:30 to PHlocking time. If you can help with the prep work of apple peeling for the apple butter project starting at 4:30, please contact Renee at renee.synan@yahoo.com or call or message her at 919-697-3799.
