President’s Notes June 2022

Having just returned from a shortened vacation (due to COVID),  I can honestly say “I am happy to be home!”  It was a meaningful trip and there are many stories to share. However, today is not the day!  Brain fog! All is well and my pheathers will be properly phluffed up soon. In the meantime, ya’ll continue to party with a purpose at our special “Star Spangled America” phlocking at the E-Club beginning at 7pm on July 1! Life is good! Friends are Great! Family is Best! Fins Up! Jan H. Prez.

President’s Notes, May 2022

I’m writing this on May 30, which is a very special day!  First, we celebrate Memorial Day and honor those who have died in the military service for the U.S. Each year we look forward to a whole weekend of barbecues, beach trips and other outdoor activities! Second, it’s my anniversary and I look forward to enjoying time spent with my best friend and dear husband, James! He is always here for me and supports all, well most, of my whacky projects! Serving the Parrot Heads is #1!

Anyway, this year also marks the 20th anniversary of EIPHC!  It’s hard to believe! Through the years, everyone involved in this club and its adventures have benefited greatly! Our phlock is definitely “one of a kind.” We spend 100’s of hours in support and earn 1000’s of dollars in contributions,  as a result each year from our membership and supporters.  We are so fortunate to live in a community that “gives back” and then “gives some more!” The true meaning of “Party with a Purpose” is evident in all that we do!

This year will be the best yet!  I can’t wait to see what happens next! Visit www.emeraldisleparrotheads for further updates. Fins up!  Jan H., Prez

President’s Notes, February 2022

How much do you really know about Jimmy Buffett?

Jimmy was born on Christmas Day in 1946 in Pascagoula, Mississippi. He grew up in Mobile, Alabama, went to Catholic High School and attended the University of Southern Mississippi. After college, he headed to Nashville where he chased women and fame.

His musical success came after his move to Key West in the early 1970’s, where he fell in love with the sea and developed a laid-back, island style attitude while playing in bars for drinks and tips. He claimed that he “almost” decided to support himself illegally by working with drug runners. Instead, Jimmy wisely elected to leave Florida and started singing about Florida.

“Margaritaville” became Buffett’s biggest hit way back in 1977 and his signature song, and the inspiration for his whole brand. He is one of the most recognized and loved figures in popular music and has been for decades. Jimmy could now buy his own island!

Parrot Heads all over the world have adopted Jimmy’s tropical lifestyle. We “party with a purpose.” We are social to the bone and work hard to leave the world a better place than how we found it! We offer an alternative to “everyday” life. Become a member and join in our phun at www.emeraldisleparrotheads.com or attend one of our monthly Friday night phlockings and check out the membership table. We would love to see you! Phins Up! President’s Notes, January 2022

HOW IS YOUR TIME SPENT? Most of you are busy working, taking care of family, cleaning the house, buying groceries, running errands, filling up every minute of your day. We all have the same 24 hours to spend and yet we all spend those hours differently. Time is different than anything else.  We can buy a thing, and when we lose it, we can buy it back. Not time! When it is gone, we have lost it forever. That makes every minute we have here so very valuable!

Let’s admit it, some days we need to just sit or lay on the couch and “pig” out on our favorite snacks! While there is nothing wrong with that, it’s not very productive and the “bliss” is short lived! In summary, we need to have some relaxation, productivity and big time PHUN added to our lives!

The Emerald Isle Parrot Head Club offers you a great alternative to your daily routine. We consciously make the “laid back” time we spend together valuable and productive! It is our desire to celebrate “escapism to the island life” even if some of us don’t live on an island!  When we “party with a purpose,” we affect the lives of many through our contributions to charities, our dedication to beautifying and cleaning up our surroundings, our willingness to give “a helping hand” to those who need it, and our heart-felt desire to “give back.”

This is your time, spend it wisely! Make it a point to renew your membership, or join us as a new member online, by mail or at the next Phlocking! Don’t waste your time thinking about it. JUST DO IT! We want to spend our time with YOU this year! Phins up y’all!  Jan H., President

President’s Notes December 2021

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! The 2021 Island Santa Bar Crawl was a stunning success! We will be presenting a check to Make a Wish, Eastern North Carolina, for $30,350! As President, I am humbled by the generosity of all who participated in this weekend celebration! The weather was beautiful, and your support was enormous. I am so thankful for the opportunity to see you all every year. Please keep coming! I would like to take a moment of your time and share with you the volunteers who made this happen!

Big Birds, Moh Traini and Jimi Crampton, for their endless hours of dedication and service to this project. Moh claims that she is only a gopher, but we all know that is not true. She is vital to “getting the job done!”

Matt Morel, owner of the Emerald Club, and Paul Musco, owner of 34 North Bar of Cedar Point, for their time and money invested and the great service provided by their staff. These two venues were critical to the success of the weekend!

Will & Tony Show for donating their talents in providing free rocking tunes throughout the 34 North event

Kathy Ruge for sharing her “Birthday Celebration Wishes” donations.

Georgia Ricks for the “Wish Your Way Fundraising” at her Annual Christmas Bash.

Each of the Bloody Mary Makers and their contributing supporters. We learned a new way to “Party with a Purpose.”

Jason Holland, our talented and fearless auctioneer, and all who assisted him.

Donors of door prizes and priceless items to the crawl raffle and live auction, including the Swag of Adams Distributors.

Joel Dunn and Carl Rauchenburg for the technology involved in making online registration possible.

James Hicks, my dear husband for his moral support from beginning to end, with at least 10 trips to the storage room, hauling me and my STUFF back and forth.

Maggie Rauschenberg and all of those who helped her with the registration of over 350 participants.

Rita Babich and our raffle teams.

Carol Lauback for detailed financial tracking and Cris Lauback for his excellent photographing of the weekend events.

Our fabulous 7 stops, Surf’s Up, Trading Post, Beach Bums, Shark’s Den, Island Time Tavern, The Growler and Gaffer’s, for allowing us to be crazy while we partied, and for their caring and patient staff.

So many “behind the scenes” volunteers for copying, cutting, running errands, putting up and taking down signs, assisting at the “big ticket raffle” and the “live auction,” distributing literature, and more!

The EIPHC Board is grateful to each of these volunteers who collectively contributed over 100 hours of service to the weekend events and for MAW. It is comforting to know that children and their families will see their wishes come true as a result of our efforts. Job well done everyone! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Phins Up Ya’ll! Jan H, President
