EIPHC President’s Notes, June 2018

Can you believe our Club’s birthday is almost here? We are making plans for celebrating it in a “BIG BIRD” way! We will PHlock together at the Anniversary Birthday PHlocking on August 3rd and then sail away to our private paradise of food, music, fun and games at the Pelican Island members-only Party on August 5th. This is my PHavorite time of year where the days are long and hot, hot, hot! The drink is good, but the company is better! Stay tuned for more details.

Now, if you have a tropical spirit, like the sea, love the sun and enjoy a good party, then you’ve come to the right place. Otherwise, get here as soon as possible! Emerald Isle Parrot Head Club offers you the chance to enjoy new and old friendships, dream about a better world, and work together to make that dream come true. We meet the PHirst PHriday of every month at the Emerald Club, Emerald Isle, NC. Next one is scheduled for July 6, 2018 at 7p.m. See website for more details. We’ll be waiting for ya’ll!  Jan

President’s Notes, May 2018

“It’s important to have as much fun as possible while we’re here. It balances out the times when the minefield of life explodes.” These words from Jimmy Buffet ring so true for all of us, young and old! You can forget that the world has gone nuts when you’re having fun, great fun!

This past weekend proves that Jimmy is right! Our Beach Bike Poker Run Event was a huge success and everyone who participated, young and old, had fun, great fun! The pictures posted on Facebook reveal happy faces with beautiful smiles and people sharing a wonderful time celebrating life! Life is good when together we raised enough to write a check for $15,000 to the Semper Fi Odyssey Children’s Camp! Thanks to the 243 riders, the volumes of volunteers and our stupendous sponsors for this awesome opportunity to experience loads of fun and to “Party with a Purpose!” Raise your glasses!!! Jan Hicks

President’s Notes, March 2018

Wow, what an active month March has been! The accomplishments and acknowledgements of the EIPHC this month were profound! It started with our fabulous March Phlocking, followed by our Quarterly Board Meeting. Next, I spoke at the Emerald Isle Business Association’s luncheon, on behalf of the Parrot Heads, who were eager to hear of the work and contributions made by us. In the same week, Ken Stone, on behalf of the EIPHC, accepted a “Proclamation” from Mayor Eddie Barber, at the Emerald Isle Board of Commissioner’s Meeting, in recognition of our “Service, Volunteerism, and Fun.” Several Club Members attended to support Ken and show our gratitude to the Town. Later, it was time to head down to the Emerald Isle St. Patty’s Day Festival and join my Pheathered Phriends at the Parrot Head Booth. Wow, volunteers from our Club worked so hard all day and the raffle donations were awesome! Our efforts paid off! What a fun and beautiful day! Still not done…Carl and our Big Birds, Jimi and Moh, arranged to present a $2,000 check to the Town of Emerald Isle for the purchase of a much-needed defibrillator. Way to go Parrot Heads!!

Great things are happening at EIPHC. Our volunteers and Big Birds are matchless. We are so fortunate to have you. In fact, the Board is currently designing a “Checklist” form to assist in the management of an event. We are continuing our efforts make it easier for any of you to be involved in our event leadership, no matter if it’s your first or thirty-first!
Thanks again to all! Hope to see you at the April 6 Phlocking, followed by the April 7 Disc Golf Tournament, as we continue to “Party with a purpose.” Jan Hicks

President’s Notes, February 2018

Hey ya’ll, February is almost gone and hopefully it will continue to take the bad weather with it! However, kudos to those who weathered the storm and attended our chilly February Phlocking…proof that Tuff Birds can have a grand time no matter if it is cold in the South!  No worries, Spring is on the way and brings with it the promise of warmer weather and beautiful days ahead.  Just like Spring, our amazing Club promises a new year full of wonderful events and opportunities to serve, some are new, some are returning annuals.

Start celebrating Spring at our March 2 Phlocking entitled “Spring has Sprung.” Next,  you can join us at our St. Patrick’s Day Booth at the fabulous Emerald Isle St. Patrick’s Day Festival on March 17.  Come join the Phlock working and playing at its best!  More details of these events and others are found on this website!  As always you are invited to attend and participate in all of our events.

Good times are promised as we continue to “Party with a purpose!”  See you at the next phlocking.  Jan Hicks

President’s Notes, January 2018

I hope you all had the happiest of holidays! As your new President, I am looking forward to the exciting events planned for 2018. First, I want to thank everyone involved in making last year such a great success with over 1,400 hours volunteered to charities and over $27,000 raised in 2017. Without you, none of this would have been possible.

I have learned from experience that volunteering offers many rewards. You make new friends, learn about and contribute to your community, and work together for those who need a helping hand. Coming up next is the St Patrick’s Day Festival on March 17, and our Fundraising Booth will need lots of volunteers to set up and take down the booth, work at the booth and donate items for the raffle. This is a fun and worthy event and last year raised over $1600. I invite you to help us out. You can sign up at the February PHLocking or contact president@emeraldisleparrotheads.com. There are many more Activities and PHLockings planned for the year in which you can participate and/or volunteer. Check out the calendar on our website for a listing.

On a final note, don’t be left out of the fun this year. Renew your membership or sign up as a new member today. We can’t wait to see you as WE PARTY WITH A PURPOSE! Jan Hicks
