Low Country Parrot Head Event and EI Parrot Heads are invited

We got a personal invitation from the Low Country Parrot Heads to join them in their  13th Annual Mardi Crawl on Shem Creek, February 25th, 2017.  It’s the weekend prior to Fat Tuesday! Funds raised benefit the Alzheimer’s Association and Pet Helpers.  Note from them is below.  The Club is in the Charleston area.  The date is Feb. 25th and if you click on the link, you can find out more.
The format will be very similar to last year with a  pre-party on Friday night(6-9pm) at RB’s right next to Red’s Icehouse.  We had so much fun at it last year and want to do it again this year.  We feel that this part is purely the Parrothead Spirit of the Crawl. We plan to have live music, fun and lots of surprises.
Our host hotel will be Quality Inn (same as last year) and we will run a shuttle back and forth prior and after the Crawl.
Saturday is the main event with one addition – we have added a restaurant down the Creek,The Wreck. We will provide land and water transportations to them throughout the Crawl as well as the other points on the creek.  The views from The Wreck are absolutely wonderful. So the participating restaurants will be Red’s; RB’s; The Shelter; Shem Creek Bar and Grill; Vickery’s and The Wreck!  The Crawl is from 1-6PM with an after-party at Red’s after that.  Many of our participating restaurants will have live music during the day.
Changes to let you know on the Creek from last year.  The office building on the corner of Coleman and Mill St is closer to completion and we will be able to use their parking facility.  The Parking lot between the new office building and Red’s Icehouse will be paved by the time we have the Crawl.  The docks the Vickery’s side of the creek are finished with a stairway to Coleman Blvd on the Vickery’s side only. That means that the water taxis will be able to take you to that side of the creek this year.  The dock is now part of the Town of Mount Pleasant Parks and is a beautiful walkway.
Online Preregistration is at lcparrotheads.org and still only $25.  If you register prior to February 11th – you will receive a wonderful commemorative T-shirt.  After that point and walk up registration ($30) will be amazing SWAG.
I would really appreciate having you pass this information on to your club members and I look forward to having you celebrating the Crawl with us.
Please let me know if you have any questions,

LONGEST DAY WALK FOR ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION

IMG_4589-LGentle Reminder to those who plan on walking for this event next weekend.  If you can’t walk, please consider donating by going to the link below.  Most of us know someone affected by Alzheimer’s.  Parrot Head Clubs around the world do fundraisers for Alzheimer’s, lets do the same!

If you are a Parrot Head and plan on walking, please register on the EIPHC team with the link below and also let Susan Smith know so she can schedule your time.  If you have not registered but have contacted Susan, please do the registration now and then see if you can get others to sponsor you.

Emerald Isle Sea Turtle Crawl – .  The goal of this event is to have a person or several walking the beach from sunrise to sunset in relay fashion.  If you are interested in walking on the Longest Day please send an email with preferred time of day and area you want to walk to Susan Smith ( Parrot Head )  at susan.seadreams@gmail.com.

Since the goal of this event is to not only bring awareness to Alzheimer’s but to raise money for research and to provide services to those affected by Alzheimer’s, there are several ways that Parrot Heads can help.  First of all sign up with Susan to walk.  For every Parrot Head that walks, the Club will donate $10.  You can also get others to sponsor you and raise even more money.   If you can’t walk that day, you can make a direct donation to the total funds raised by the Parrot Head team instead.  Anyone can log onto the Parrot Head Team Page by using his link. http://act.alz.org/goto/EIPHC

Walkers should log on to the site and send information to friends, relatives and neighbors, so they can donate as well. Even if you are a Sea Turtle Volunteer and walk, if you are a Parrot Head, the Club will still donate $10 for each Parrot Head Team member. Last year we had 30 walkers and donated $300. Let’s see if we can top that.  All donations go directly to the Alzheimer’s Association.

An added benefit to making a donation is a chance to win a stay at Batten the Breeze courtesy of Emerald Isle Realty.  With each donation of $50 or more, you will be entered into a drawing for the 3 day stay.

There will also be a fundraiser at Loon Street Art Studio in Emerald Isle where you can paint a sea turtle hatchling.  The class is $50 with $15 donated to the EI Sea Turtle Crawl team.

January 2016 Happenings

January 8th – 7PM – First Friday PHlocking (no wait this time it is the second Friday PHlocking…..)

Join us for the new year and a recall of the fun we had in 2015.  Not sure exactly what the theme will be but we will make sure you have some fun.   Also, a big reminder to bring a check (EIPHC) or cash for the 2016 dues of $10 per person.  (same price as when the Club started.) Our dues are calendar basis (January to December) and we do not prorate.  If you joined late in the year, check with us, we may have put you in for 2016 already!   In March we will delete those who have not paid from the membership list and you will need to fill out a new application with appropriate information and the dues payment. If you won’t make the PHlocking, you can mail your check made out to EIPHC to Sue Stone, 9701 Ashley Place, Emerald Isle, NC 28594.

January 16th – Adopt a Highway Litter Pick-up – Meet at 11:00 AM at the Emerald Club.   We missed the fall highway pickup due to rain etc. and it is looking pretty littered so what better way to work off some calories and stay warm than an hour with your Parrot Head friends.   This time we are doing the litter pick up in coordination with Carteret County Gateway organization (the group trying to pretty up Cape Carteret and get a bike path built).  They will be picking up on Rte 58 going up towards Pelletier.  So bundle up and help us keep the “gateway” to paradise clean and pretty!   We will have a sign up sheet at the PHlocking and at the PHluffing Party or you can email Jean Jensen at belguimboy@aol.com.  Join the group for lunch someplace to be determined immediately following the pickup if you want to continue the fun.

January 13th (Wednesday) –  PHluff up the PHlock Party   6:30 .  This  is your chance to become an active member.  Each January, as tradition now has it, we come together as a PHlock to help plan the upcoming year’s activities.  We see who is interested in becoming a Board Member, committee chair/co-chair  or someone who can help head up an event.  It is a time that you can give the Club some feedback on the good, the bad and the ugly and help make some positive changes in the club.  While everyone is welcome, we are really looking for those that would like to take an active role in the club.  If you are interested and can attend, please send me an email and as we finalize plans for the gathering, I will let you know exactly where we will be PHlocking. We do some break out work sessions and of course have plenty to eat and drink.  Please think about your role in the club. The more active you become, the more people you will get to know and enjoy.  One other item worth mentioning here.  If you would like to see the club help a particular charity (501 C 3) , have an idea and are willing to head up the event, we are always willing to help find a way to help make it happen. Typically, the person/persons in charge of an event (Big Birds) get to pick the recipient of the funds raised.  As an example, Michael Moyer and Mendy Barrows team up for the Coast is Clear Under the Pier Party and they pick the charity (usually animal related).
