The club is busy making plans for our Parrot Head Club Anniversary Weekend, August 7-9. Everyone should be looking for a fun weekend with a Phirst Phriday PHlocking on Friday (Aug. 7th) followed by our Anniversary Island Party (August 9th) out on Pelican Island. Parrot Heads and friends will arrive by boat, kayak, canoe, or other(?) for a fun day in the sun and water with games, grllin’ & chillin’, and music by Dicky Scearce & Jack Ketner (A.K.A Scared of Kittens). After the party was postponed last year because of bad weather and then cancelled because of more bad weather, we expect that the Phlock will be ready to party twice as hard and enjoy the anniversary weekend. Look for more information coming soon here on the website and on Facebook, Google+ and Twitter.

Parrot Heads Participate to support Alzheimer’s Association
On 6/20, the Summer Solstice, the Emerald Isle Parrot Head Club (EIPHC) joined forces with the Emerald Isle Turtle Protection Organization in support of the North Carolina Alzheimers Association’s Longest Day fund raiser.
Under the organization of EIPHC member, Susan Smith, who is also the state’s Alzheimers Ambassador, 29 Parrot Heads walked the EI beach from sunrise to sunset raising money and awareness for this devastating disease. Some participants raised their own sponsorships, while our club also pitched in $10 per member for their efforts!
EIPHC members comprised almost half the total walkers! Hopefully we can do it again next year.

Report from the July 3rd Phlocking
Parrot Heads do it again with a great time had by all. Renee and her helpers hosted Christmas in July PHlocking at the E-Club to benefit the Animal Shelter. We had a good turnout of folks who braved the heat and the threat of rain. Flannery (her dog) watched over the goodies everyone brought for the Shelter; lots of dog and cat food and other assorted stuff! The 50/50 raffle netted $80 to help the shelter. Thanks for all the hard work Renee and thanks to all who contributed. Party with a Purpose once again!

Make a dog smile with Christmas in July!
A few additional notes about the Phlocking Friday July 3rd…..
For complete information on the event see the previous post.
The Humane society likes to use “Special Kitty” brand kitty litter; available inexpensively at Wal-Mart.
They also prefer Purina (Dog-chow, Puppy-chow, Cat-chow, Kitty-chow) brand foods.
July 2015 Phlocking – Christmas in July for our phurry phriends
This month’s Phlocking theme is Christmas in July, but instead of presents for the humans, we will be focusing on gifts for our animal friends.
We will be Phlocking on Friday July 3rd at the Emerald Club. With the holiday weekend I’m sure it will be crowded there!
Dress in red and green, and bring an “unwrapped” donation of pet food, newspapers, pet toys, old sheets or towels, cleaning supplies. Donations will go to Carteret County Humane Society. Continue reading July 2015 Phlocking – Christmas in July for our phurry phriends
Happy 30th Anniversary Parrot Heads! 1985-2015
30 years ago today … June 28, 1985 in Cincinnati, Ohio during the “Sleepless Knights Tour” at the Timberwolf Amphitheater (Kings Island). Jimmy Buffett commented that the fans who were returning each year in costumes were reminiscent of Deadheads. Timothy B. Schmit (who also played bass for the Eagles) replied, “yea Jimmy, Parrotheads”. Jimmy repeated it to the crowd… and the rest is history.
