Parrotheads at Hoophole Creek cleanup — Parrotheads at Hoop Pole Creek Preserve cleanup

The Parrotheads had a large contingent at the annual Hoop Pole Creek Preserve nature trail cleanup on January 14th. This event is organized by the Coastal Federation, and helps to keep this 31-acre urban park clean and inviting. Approximately 20 Parrotheads met the Coastal Federation organizers at 10AM and fanned out along the trail and marshes, picking up several bags of aluminum cans, plastic bottles, plastic bags, styrofoam, drinking cups, and other trash. Our efforts, combined with the Coastal Foundation volunteers made short work of the litter, and we were finished shortly after 11AM.

St. Pat’s Festival Booth report

With a beautiful day on tap, our Parrot Head booth at the Emerald Isle St. Patrick’s Day Festival was a huge success. Parrot Head volunteers were decked out in St. Pat’s garb as they handed out info, hawked Riff Raff Raffle tickets, took in new members, and generally had a rowdy time. Jimi Crampton and Ken Stone took turns in the Party-on the Parrot suit bringing business into the booth and playing and getting their pictures taken with little kids. We had 18 great gifts to raffle off that were donated by Parrot Heads and supporting local businesses which allowed us to take in donations of $1750 that was all given to charity, the E.I. Fire Dept. to go towards handicapped beach wheelchairs and Protectors of Homeless Pets/the Humane Society. Many thanks to all who helped out and those who contributed to the raffles, and welcome to new members and returning members!

2016 January 16th Highway Pickup a success!

Co-ordinated by Jean Jenson, he reports that 27 parrot heads participated in our regular clean up of highway 58 between the traffic light at Rt. 24 and the bridge. Despite predictions, the sun was shining on the group the whole time which made our good deeds much more enjoyable. When all was said and done, 27 bags of trash were disposed of leaving the entrance to Emerald Isle once again a better place.

ZING ZUMM FUN!

EIPHC hosted a mini golf tournament this past Sunday at Emerald Forest Putt Putt and an awards ceremony following at Carolina Wine Mixer. With over $600 raised and 44 participants, it was huge success with fun had by all. The fundraiser benefited the campaign for the Zing Zumm children’s museum of Jacksonville. A brief article/ photo will be featured in the Neighbors section of the Jacksonville paper this coming Sunday. Thank you all for your continuous generosity and support for our community!

Parrot Heads Participate to support Alzheimer’s Association

On 6/20, the Summer Solstice, the Emerald Isle Parrot Head Club (EIPHC) joined forces with the Emerald Isle Turtle Protection Organization in support of the North Carolina Alzheimers Association’s Longest Day fund raiser.

Under the organization of EIPHC member, Susan Smith, who is also the state’s Alzheimers Ambassador, 29 Parrot Heads walked the EI beach from sunrise to sunset raising money and awareness for this devastating disease. Some participants raised their own sponsorships, while our club also pitched in $10 per member for their efforts!

EIPHC members comprised almost half the total walkers! Hopefully we can do it again next year.

We Cleaned up the place! Ok maybe the roadway. Thank you to all the Parrot Heads and PHriends who came to clean the roadway on both sides of the bridge in Emerald Isle. It looks clean and spiffy now!

BTW – If you are free this coming Thursday come to Scallywags at 6PM for the New Member Social.

St. Patrick’s Day Festival Report

Despite the rainy weather at the St. Patty’s Day Festival, our raffle raised $621 for Family Promise…what a generous fun group of people who volunteered their time and wonderful Festival attendees who bought lots of tickets. Great day despite the rain! Thanks to all who donated items.

Hoop Pole Creek Clean up Report

The annual Hoop Pole Creek clean up this year helping out the Coastal Federation on March 7th was a great success. We had a total of 28 parrot heads participating including parrot heads visiting from Virginia. (friends of Jack and Renee). The weather cooperated nicely. Afterwards 19 of us Parrot Heads had a delicious lunch at the Monkey Bar Café’. W e thank everyone who made it a great success.
