EIPHC President’s Notes, July 2018

Words can’t express how proud I am of our EIPHC! This year has been fantastic and incredibly rewarding. If you haven’t done so already or want to catch up, you can read about us on the National Parrot Head Club website at https://www.phip.com/ and by selecting “Clubs and Chapter Info”, then selecting the Tradewind Times on the left, in which we are celebrated as the Featured Club. This publication is distributed to all PH clubs around the world. As evidenced, EIPHC has provided extraordinary events and phlockings throughout the year and more amazing “stuff” is yet to come! That means more work is left to be done. So, ”What Would Jimmy Buffet do?”

“Breathe in, breathe out, move on.” Catch a deep breath, spread your wings, take flight, and join the phlock as we “move on” through the remaining year. Don’t miss an opportunity to change lives, improve the environment, and help make this world an even better place, while having fun doing it! There’s a place waiting just for you to serve as an EIPHC volunteer. You can sign up at one of our monthly phlockings, contact us on our website, or feel free to contact president@emeraldisleparrotheads.com and I’ll be happy to help you find your place so that together we can Party with a Purpose! 2018 Beach Bike Poker Run Wrapup

BBPR check
From L to R: Donna Grady, Ashley Washington, Jami Thomas, Tanya Washington

On May 19, 2018, the Emerald Isle Parrot Head’s hosted their 15th Annual Beach Bike Poker Run. With 242 participants this was the 2nd largest in history of the event. Each participant rode their bike or walked to the seven poker stops, drew a poker card, and tried to create the best poker hand possible. Congratulations to Lee Ott for buying his mulligan and coming up with four aces for the winning hand. He took home $300 in cash.   Aside from the poker hand competition, the Parrot Head’s also hosted a bicycle decoration contest. The creativity of the Parrot Head’s is second to none! The evening ended with a live auction. The giving hearts of the Emerald Isle community were magnified during our auction. This was the first year of the live auction and what a success it was, brining in $3000.

Local The profits of this event were donated to the Semper Fi Fund Kids Camp. The camp allows children of injured service members of all branches from Carteret and Onslow counties to enjoy a week of personal growth and adventure. Following the week of camp, campers are paired with a mentor the year. This allows the continued growth of these children who have faces so much in their lives. 2018 was another record breaking year for the fundraising efforts of the Emerald Isle Parrot Heads. Through hard work, the generosity of our poker stops, sponsors and the kind-hearted members of the Emerald Isle community $15,000 was donated on June 6th to the Semper Fi Fund.  Last year the Parrot Heads raised funds to cover the expenses of 21 campers and four mentors. In true Parrot Head fashion, we partied with a purpose! We are excited to see how many  more campers and mentors this $15,000 donation will impact!

Now, if you have a tropical spirit, like the sea, love the sun and enjoy a good party, then you’ve come to the right place. Otherwise, get here as soon as possible! Emerald Isle Parrot Head Club offers you the chance to enjoy new and old friendships, dream about a better world, and work together to make that dream come true. PHreedom PHlocking July 6, 2018

The 4th of July will be behind us, but let’s keep out the RED, WHITE and BLUE for a few more days and celebrate the GREATNESS of the USA!! The EIPHC will honor our country and patriotism during our July Phlocking on July 6, 2018 from 7-9 pm at the E-Club. We all know what a GREAT country we live in, so let’s forget about all things political and come together to celebrate in the traditional Parrot Head way….by Partying with a Purpose!! We will celebrate our country’s 242nd birthday and show our loyalty by donning our best PATRIOTIC gear and getting back to Making America Great by helping others!! Our 50/50 raffle will be donated to A Second Helping – Emerald Isle. This fantastic organization collects leftover food from vacationers as they leave the island on Saturdays and Sundays. Collected food items are then distributed to the needy in our area. You can continue to help by spreading the word that DROP OFF LOCATIONS AND TIMES ARE: Bert’s Surf Shop (across the street under the tent) 8:00am-11:00am or at Stir it Up Coffee 7:00am-11:00am every weekend. VOLUNTEERS are always needed and appreciated so you can sign up at http://asecondhelping-emeraldisle.com. Matt will be providing the free food and drink specials that we all look forward to each month and we should have a few “out of town friends” to join our celebration of AMERICA. We look forward to seeing everyone there!

The 2018 MOTM Wait List for the Casa Marina – Here are the 3 steps below:
  1. Register for Meeting of the Minds 2018.
REMEMBER YOU MUST BE REGISTERED FOR MEETING OF THE MINDS 2018 TO STAY AT THE CASA MARINA OR BE ON THE WAIT LIST FOR THE CASA.
  1. Book your room at the Reach Resort. While our awesome Parrot Head rate is only valid at the Casa Marina the Reach is offering a discount to our group this year. This Reach Resort rate will not be as low as the Casa rate but there is a booking discount for MOTM Parrot Heads. There are some Casa Marina cancellations every year so booking early will put you up the list as we do go in order to move people over as vacancy happens through the year. This can happen right up to the event so give the hotel your cell number not your home number for contact!
  1. Email our MOTM Director of Registration Rick Fyffe at rjfyffe1@ymail.com
Put in the title of your email “MOTM Casa Marina Wait List.” Tell Rick you are booked at the Reach and registered for MOTM.  Rick will add you to the Casa Marina wait list in the order in which you contact him.
We have to fill the Casa Marina so we will work very hard to move everyone we can as cancellations occur. We will be working down the order in which you reply to Rick Fyffe. Sorry for any confusion but it is best to manage this list through Rick vs. contacting the hotel.
Here is the special link to the Reach Resort for our group discount – Again this is NOT the same rate as the Casa Marina. Simply copy and paste the URL below into your browser to access the exclusive rates available just for Parrot Heads!
The Reach Resort offers a special MOTM Only Parrot Head 10% discount for the online rates and will also honor discounted resort fee of $20. The current public resort fee is $40.
Mini Mart at the Casa Marina!
Our Mini Mart will be full of sponsors and vendors for you to come by and visit. Be sure you make it to the Mini Mart party with live music on Thursday morning and all through the event to see what we have planned for you!  There will be plenty of things for you to purchase and check out! Be sure you drop by several times during Meeting of the Minds! More to come on the Mini Mart!
Halloween Contest!
This year Halloween falls on Wednesday during the start of Meeting of the Minds 2018. On the MAIN STAGE at the Casa Marina we will have a contest sponsored by the Casa Marina so start picking your costume now! There will be some nice prizes and a ton of Parrot Head PHun!
Entertainment Schedule!
Bands! Bands! Bands! This year there will be more bands featuring your favorite artists than ever before at MOTM. Many of the Coral Reefer Band and even Coral Reefer band alumni are lined up to come to MOTM 2018. The schedule always gets tweaked up to the day of the event so keep an eye on the listing for any changes! The 2018 entertainment schedule is up on line for your viewing pleasure! Don’t miss the WELCOME TO KEY WEST PARTY on the main stage on Wednesday night!! Watch the sun go down on beach as the party gets started!
What a value MOTM is! Five days of non-stop music from artists you love and your favorite artists from the Coral Reefer Band along with alumni members playing in all kinds of configurations!
More to come over the next few weeks! Don’t delay registering and getting your plans ready for another awesome time in Key West at Meeting of the Minds! Until next time, I’ll see you, down the road!
