President’s Notes June 2021

THIS IS A TIME OF CELEBRATION!

And with June comes Summer!  We’ve waited for what seems like a century.  It’s time to celebrate doing what we do best!  So far, the turnout and support from our Phriends and Phamily at our events has been great!  I am certain, in view of the exciting events still coming, things will only get better! The regular phlockings will continue the first Friday of each month. Additionally, we’ll play hard and ride hard at the 17th Annual Beach Bike Poker Run on August 7 to help celebrate the 19th Anniversary of The Emerald Isle Parrot Head Club. This is a major event held every year to support the Kid’s Outdoor Odyssey Camp of Semper Fi & America’s Fund.

In September, our good phriend and beloved musician, Rick Lamb and The Phin Addicts Band will return for performances beginning at the E- Club, Emerald Isle,  on Friday, September 3 during our regular phlocking and again on September 4 for a phlash phlocking at 34 North, Cedar Point.  Rick and his band are  well known in Parrot Head Nation and play all over the country with a trop-rock sound that is unbeatable. I can’t wait to hear them again!

Moving on, we’ll phlock to the beach on September 19  at the Coast is Clear Party to celebrate the end of summer season. Then, once again we’ll prepare to deck out in pink and bling as we strut down the sidewalks of Emerald Isle on October 9 for our infamous DIVA Walk.  What a great way to raise money for cancer awareness!

There’s even more in store for us as we move through 2021. Keep up with our calendar and event details online and in our monthly newsletters at www.emeraldisleparrotheadclub.com.  Have a safe & happy 4th everyone!  Fins up! Jan H, President

“FLOWER POWER” June 4 Phlocking, 7pm, E-Club

“Flower Power” promotes the idea of “peace and love” as a means of changing the world! “Parrot Heads” do too!  Express your “Flower Power” at our June Phlocking with “flowers in your hair, flowers everywhere!”  Pull out those tube tops, tye-dye shirts, and bright floral dresses! Deck out in head bands, scarves, and peace signs.  Matt will provide the phun with food, live music, and special drinks at the E-Club.  AND, to symbolize our “Flower Power,” all proceeds from the 50/50 raffle will be used to  cover expenses related to our newest community project! Sign up at the phlocking and work with James, Carol & Cris the following morning, June 5, at 10:00 on “Beautification Day.”  We’ll be cleaning up and planting flowers in the gardens of the tiny “Butterfly Park” located in front of the water tower at the poiice station on Emerald Isle. “Let’s Party Like it’s 1969!”

President’s Notes May 2021

What is a Parrot Head and why be one? When you hear the word Parrot Head, do you automatically think of Jimmy Buffett and his fans? Sure you do, but there is so much more to it than attending a concert or listening to his songs with a Margarita in your hand!

Over several decades, Parrot Heads have grown to tens of thousands of pholks, established individual clubs all over the world and discovered phun places to phlock! They symbolize a love of the lifestyle that Buffett sings about and a desire to kick back whenever and wherever possible with good music, good phriends, and good drinks! Newcomers are welcome, even if they have limited knowledge of Jimmy Buffett’s music! It is well known that Parrot Heads make strangers into phriends!

They are also known for their parties, but they work hard too, in the form of community service, charitable contributions, and many other phun yet community-based projects. Even though they are laid back and usually enjoy a drink, they are also environmentally and culturally aware and do their best to give back to society! Because of their strength in numbers and generosity, they donate thousands of dollars and manpower hours every year!

There’s much more to learn about Parrot Heads and the best way to learn is to be one! Come join us at our June 4 Phlocking at the E-Club at 7pm and learn for yourself how to “Party with a Purpose!” See you there! Jan H, President

MAY 7 PHLOCKING “BACK TO THE 80’S” AT 7PM, E-CLUB

Remember these favorites: Madonna, Olivia Newton John, Elton John, Johnny Depp, Tom Petty, Cyndi Laupar and Michael Jackson? We’re going back to the 80’s with this Phlocking to celebrate this great decade! Wear your 80’s  best outfit.  Matt is going all out and providing an 80’s band so we can get down and boogie up.

Also, we will be kicking off the “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” Month, a big event for all Parrot Heads. Add bonus points with a splash of purple in your 80’s clothes to signify Alzheimer’s Month. Let’s once again “Party with a Purpose!” Thanks to Bonnie Forkey, our Big Bird for this event!

President’s Notes January 2021

It’s easy for us to get bogged down in the daily grind and lose our motivation in the things we really love to do. Don’t let that happen to you! Stay well informed by reading your Newsletter and visiting www.emeraldisleparrotheads.com often to keep up with what’s happening in the world of Parrot Heads.

A great way for you to know us better and become involved in upcoming events is to attend our annual “PHluff the PHlock” Membership Meeting scheduled for Sunday March 7, at 4 p.m. The meeting will be virtual and held via ZOOM. The February Newsletter will contain additional information. Your suggestions and involvement in deciding the directions we take this year is of great importance to us.  Let your voice be heard! After all, you are the reason we’re still here!

Lastly, you are reminded to renew or pay your dues for 2021. Thank you if you already have done so. Each of you is a valued member of this Parrot Head PHamily.  Listen up, it will get better, and the time will come when you can hug again, spill your drink on your best buddy, step inside someone’s space, dance like a PHool, and work side by side! Raise your glasses high and let’s drink to the adventures that lie ahead in 2021!  We will “Party with a Purpose.” Jan H., President

It’s almost time! MOTM 2021 Registration!

Even as we as a community and a country navigate our way through loss and tragedy amidst the most challenging time in our memories,  we look ahead to a day of renewal and rebirth and recovery when we Parrot Heads are Back on our Phins Again! And that day is coming soon. Registration for Meeting of the Minds 2021 – “Party at the End of the World”  – opens at 11:07 am Eastern Time on January 21, 2021.

No need to knock on wood. With registration starting at 11:07 on 1-21-21 for an event that begins November 3 and runs through 11-7-21, MOTM 21 is, numerologically speaking, the safest bet you’ll ever make! And with music programs added for Wednesday and Sunday of MOTM week, it’s a Key West Jackpot – five days of music and friends and partying with a purpose in paradise.

We will be rolling out more of the details of the entertainment program in the coming days, but you can bet your bottom dollar the lineup will include some staples – Howard Livingston and Mile Marker 24, some exciting debuts – Opening Night with “Girls Just Wanna Have Rum!”, Steel City’s Corned Beef and Curry making their first MOTM trip,  and the addition of Kelly McGuire’s Lighthouse Songwriter Showcase – and some traditional charity cases – Jim Hoehn breaks his own record by appearing at MOTM for the 76th straight year, a remarkable career achievement for a man who knows just three chords on the guitar. And of course you won’t be able to tip a shot ski without spilling tequila on a Coral Reefer!

(Note: We are confident ww will soon be able to reveal the participation of John Frinzi, but the announcement has been delayed due to extensive negotiations and some minor litigation over the terms of his 16-page hair-and-makeup contract rider.)

Some changes to know about:
With just a slight uptick in the registration cost to lucky $97.77, MOTM is a remarkable bargain, especially with two additional days of music added to the program! But we’ve made a couple of changes to make sure our charity beneficiaries do not take a hit during these challenging times. With sponsors tightening their belts, especially those in the hard hit hospitality industry, we are counting on Parrot Heads to come through with support for these great causes, as we always do, because it’s what we do. We’ve made two adjustments to help make it happen.

Event tee shirts are an optional purchase. Event surveys demonstrate that some people are passionate about their event shirts while others report having entire guest houses filled with Parrot Head souvenir tees. By making the tees an optional additional purchase, we will be able to save tens of thousands for our charities without having to increase registration costs for folks who have closets full of coral and magenta tops.

VIP Registration. For $200 (per individual or couple in addition to registration cost), you can be an MOTM VIP/Sponsor. This earns you a program shoutout, a welcome gift and other goodies, but most importantly, for the FIRST FIFTY VIP REGISTRANTS only, the option to purchase a guaranteed premium beachfront room at the Casa Marina. If you are among the first fifty VIP registrants, you need not reserve your room at the Casa. We become your “Concierge,” and we will do it for you! (Please note this is not a guarantee of any particular room or suite.) Yes, it’s an extra expense for those who choose it, and yes, the best rooms are no longer first-come-first-serve, but at least you don’t have to repeatedly call the Casa’s reservations line like a teenager trying to win a radio station prize just to get your room!

Go to www.PHIP.com to register, beginning 11:07 am Thursday, 1-21-21.

You must register for MOTM to reserve a room at Casa Marina. Beginning at 11:07 am on 1-21-21, book a room at http://group.waldorfastoria.com/sdumf, or call 1-888-303-5717 with code ZZPHIP for the PHIP Discount.

Phins Up!
